Wealthy Men Give Women More Orgasms
“Scientists have found that the pleasure women get from making love is directly linked to the size of their partner’s bank balance. They found that the wealthier a man is, the more frequently his partner has orgasms. ‘Women’s orgasm frequency increases with the income of their partner,’ said Dr Thomas Pollet, the Newcastle University psychologist behind the research. He believes the phenomenon is an ‘evolutionary adaptation’ that is hard-wired into women, driving them to select men on the basis of their perceived quality. The study is certain to prove controversial, suggesting that women are inherently programmed to be gold-diggers. However, it fits into a wider body of research known as evolutionary psychology which suggests that both men and women are genetically predisposed to ruthlessly exploit each other to achieve the best chances of survival for their genes. This story has been spreading like wildfire online but none of the news accounts actually cite Dr Pollet and Professor Nettle’s published article. Curiously, it took a lot of googling to find the thing. For the record, their study “Partner wealth predicts self-reported orgasm frequency in a sample of Chinese women” was published in the academic journal Evolution and Human Behavior. Unfortunately, you have to pay to read the entire text. (Incidentally, what the hell is it with medical and scientific publishing? Shouldn’t researchers be trying to share their knowledge? How can these publishers charge $31.50 for a PDF when putting a document online costs pennies?) The paper is discussed in more depth at the blog Pleiotropy, which excerpts a few points.
There are a lot of obvious things to say about this research, but what would be interesting to know is how perversion might figure into this model of the female orgasm. Does deviant behavior — traditionally defined by its non-reproductivity — correlate in any way with economic status? Suppose the wealthy are more drawn to perversion than the poor. Is it because their reproductive chances are so good that they can afford to throw away a few orgasms on, say, whips and chains? Conversely, suppose it is the poor who show a greater inclination for deviant behavior. Is it nature’s way of weeding out those less fit to survive?
Poor people are way more likely to be deviant and to need to make up for lack of money, and replace it with another thing (behaviour).
Anything that humans lack ends up getting replaced with something.

as a member of the university of zurich, i am able to get the full article mentioned above for free. haven’t read it though. i could translate it with google translator to, say, polish, so that they won’t detect the text and then paste it into the forums. just translate it back then to read it.
What I wanted to mention is that this is a typical correlation study: there’s no way to isolate the real causes and the effects, cuz all is intertwined. it could just mean that, say, more attractive men are more likely to be rich, (and tend to get the woman to an orgasm just because they look hotter during intercourse)… or it could mean that rich men have more self-esteem (either because they’re rich or they get rich because of the self-esteem), which surely helps in bed. or it could just mean that a higher self-esteem helps these rich men to get more attractive women, which is definately a turn-on in bed and probably leads to greater motivation for him to do her properly…..i just hate these dumbed-down studies. but at least there’s something to talk about….
