Supervert, the creator of PervScan, is pleased to announce a little project called DeviantTwit.ch. This new site filters the popular microblogging service Twitter for sex in general and deviance in particular. Then it presents a real-time feed of sordid “tweets.” If that doesn’t make sense, just go have a look at DeviantTwit.ch and you’ll grasp what it’s all about.
To be completely honest, Supervert has no idea what sort of interest there is for a site such as DeviantTwit.ch. However, it somehow makes for compelling browsing. Every minute or two (if you refresh the page) there is a brand new scrap of smut — random observations on sex, links to articles, lovers flirting, insomniacs describing the porn they’re viewing, friends chiding each other about sex with midgets… It’s random, unpredictable, almost cacophonous, like putting your head in some crazy space that’s part echo chamber and part porn booth. You may find yourself wanting to dip in and out of the site a few times a day. It will be different every time — and to titillate your jaded mind, is there anything better than a continual improvisation on filth?

Supervert has it installed on two different machines. It’s the sort of thing that sometimes compels you just to sit and stare at it — random construction sites in middle America, a cybercafe in Russia, a chemical plant in the south of France…. Love it.
No, It’s an X-screensaver for Linux, but SurveillanceSaver is pretty cool. I’ll have to look for a *nix equivalent.

One of the challenges with this little project, in case anyone is curious, is to tweak the search queries to get the best results. For example, the “coprophilia” category currently includes results for “Dirty Sanchez.” That sort of choice is difficult to make. Do people mostly know what a Dirty Sanchez is?

Awesome. Been looking at the new corpus that is Twitter myself (http://booktwo.org/notebook/on-winning-and-failing/) - glad to see it being mined for filth.
When you first encounter Twitter, you find yourself thinking, “Well, do I really want to do this? Emit 140 character bits of ego and id? For what? Who cares?” But as Twitter begins to reach critical mass, you realize just how incredible the sum total of those “tweets” are. (140 characters * half a million users * as many “tweets” as they want = !)
The moment you realize that that real-time stream of expression is searchable, the entire thing takes on a new relevance. Whether James parses it for win/fail, or DeviantTwit.ch parses it for raunch, or other tools extract other trends, you suddenly have a spigot into something that previously was a whimsical concept — a “collective consciousness.” It’s illuminating and deeply entertaining. It’s like a windup toy, always in motion — and, in DeviantTwit.ch’s case, always sordid.
