Plastic Mac Fetish Man Convicted

“A man with a fetish for plastic raincoats and cling film has pleaded guilty to two sexual assaults. Nicholas Green, 47, of The Avenue, Newton Abbot, Devon, was arrested after two women, aged 49 and 46, were assaulted on Teignmouth seafront. He admitted kissing them on the hand, neck and cheek and suggesting to one she should wear a plastic mac. Green was given a two-year community order and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years… During the trial at Exeter Crown Court the prosecutor, Dave Bowen, said Green had previous convictions following a similar pattern. In 1995 he indecently assaulted a 34-year-old woman, persuading her to put on plastic raincoats before kissing and fondling her. He also went to the workplace of a 21-year-old woman and got her to put on a plastic ‘pack-a-mac’. He was also convicted for commonly assaulting a five-year-old girl, who he dressed in a raincoat and offered sweets. He was traced, after the latest incident in Teignmouth, through his car registration number. Recorder Sarah Munro QC said: ‘You have five previous convictions for similar offences and since you were a young child you have had a distressing fetish for plastic macs and cling film. You have used various ruses to ask women to put on plastic macs and cling film and your fetish appears incurable.’” — BBC (UK)

Recently PervScan was speaking with an English friend about his perceptions of America. He was astounded, for example, by how harsh America can be. This isn’t one of those socialist countries that takes care of its own. It’s dog-eat-dog, and if some amateur Freud wanted to discover what lay underneath the “American dream,” he might well discover ruthlessness. Here in New York, for example, you can see supermodels strut by people stretched out half dead on the street. Are they bums? Drug addicts? Crazy Vietnam vets? Cadavers? All of the above? Supermodels don’t stop to ask.

Of course, Americans have their stereotypes of the British as well: tea, biscuits, bobbies, a nationwide air of stoic reserve, a plastic raincoat fetish… Is there any sexual fetish that so reinforces the notion that the British are, well, buttoned-up? It makes you wonder to what extent perversions are culturally determined. Usually they’re considered private affairs — freak lusts emanating from psychic black boxes — but doubtless there is a sociological component to even the most eccentric desire. People recognize this in the twisted relationship between homosexuality and sodomy laws, or between pedophilia and age-of-consent laws. But what about fetishes — do you think that social factors surreptitiously shape and condition the choice of fetish objects?

Incidentally, a few years ago a user named dogboy sent a link to the Roy Orbison In Clingfilm site. It features a series of fan-fiction satires in which Roy Orbison always ends up wrapped in cling-film or plastic wrap. It’s a brilliant site — and is there any surprise that its author appears to reside in England?

Being english, I was ready to defend ‘us’ against any suggestion that we all go around lusting after plastic wraps. ” Look at Japan! ” I was about to say. ” Obsessed with bondage! “.

Then I thought; ” Oh yeah. And there’s a nation Really socially strictured …” I’d walked into my own trap. Damn.

I don’t know, ‘Vert. I haven’t met many Japanese people. But it Does seem ‘Obvious’ where that taste emminates from, with them.

Again, we brits are supposed to all be obsessed with caning, aren’t we? Public School and all that? Again; I never went to a public school and don’t mix in those circles. Not my cup of tea anyway.

As a national identity then, something classless? Buggered if I’d know. And Roy Orbison? Wrapped in Cling Film?!? FFS! I’ll put my hands up to certain little pecadillos. But That?! Jeezus, No! That truly IS Perverse! :o

A local radio station just wrapped up a fetish-theme week. I wish I’d known about the Roy Orbison thing; it would have taken the cake. That is truly bent.

Absolutely, I believe that social factors shape and condition the choice of fetish objects. Perhaps though with the current “globalization” of culture–particularly via the American media/entertainment industry–we’ll find some interesting developments. This might have parallels in the “Cargo Cult” mentality….I’ll leave it to others to imagine how this might manifest across cultures. Hopefully the “Roy Orbison in cling film” situation stays under wraps, though…
