Hobby Lobby Manager Faked Sex Assault
“The Hobby Lobby manager who police say faked a sexual assault may be the same person who wrote derogatory letters to fellow employees complaining about the loose morals of the newly promoted store manager — herself… Lori Koehler, 37, was arrested Monday for false reporting… The case began when Broomfield police responded to a hang-up 911 call at 7:36 a.m. Feb. 20. Officer Ben Barreaux heard an alarm at the store and noticed that the back door was unlocked but showed no sign of forced entry, the affidavit said. When he and another officer entered, they saw a woman lying on the floor fully clothed but with pants that were unzipped to the top of her underwear. When he touched her right shoulder, she screamed and curled up in a fetal position, the affidavit said. He noticed her left hand was tied to some shelving with a zip tie. On the floor were keys, money, paper, scissors, a roll of red tape, a strip of red tape and two open and empty Trojan condom wrappers. The woman, later identified as Koehler, resisted attempts at help but eventually was taken to St. Anthony North Hospital so she could be examined for possible sexual assault. There, Koehler told a nurse that she had been working at Hobby Lobby alone when a man with a gun confronted her and tied up her left wrist. She said the man taped her mouth shut, and she noticed a scar on his right forearm. Koehler said the man told her that ‘he warned (employees at Hobby Lobby) but they didn’t believe him.’ She said the man then sexually assaulted her. Nurses found an abrasion on her wrist and swelling in her groin area. She was treated and released. Later, when she was interviewed by police, Koehler hid her face in her hands and seldom made eye contact, the affidavit says.” — Rocky Mountain News (US)
Here is a picture of Ms. Koehler. Green eyes, wireframe glasses, pasty skin, bangs, probably dyed blond hair — she looks a little sad, but otherwise there is nothing exceptional about her appearance. She could be the woman standing in front of you in line at any supermarket in America. Behind that unassuming exterior, however, there lurks a very troubled person. The Rocky Mountain News detailed that this probably wasn’t the first time Ms. Koehler created a smear campaign against herself and followed it up with a rape claim.
This woman is clearly not a pervert. A pervert is someone who may, for example, exhibit himself — he may flash his genitalia or engage in a public sex act. Ms. Koehler is also exhibiting something, but it’s not a body part. It’s a mental thing — a neurosis, compulsion, perhaps even trauma. She has a clear modus operandi: publicly accuse herself of loose morals and then claim she’s been raped. It’s as though she says of herself, in the third person, “She fucks anybody and everybody — but wait, the one person she wouldn’t fuck just forced himself on her.” She begins with a public declaration of indiscrimate consent and ends with an equally public assertion of non-consent. She’s a slut. She’s a victim. She oscillates wildly between the two.
If you’re an armchair psychologist, it is difficult not to interpret the behavior as a way of disavowing responsibility for her sexuality. It’s as though she wants the notion that she’s a sexual being to be succeeded by the notion that her sexuality has been forced on her. It screams of past abuse, molestation, incest. It leaves you with the impression that she’s fighting some darkness inside not with enlightenment — introspection, analysis, acceptance — but with some new form of darkness made up of these smear campaigns.
Something tells me she isn’t going to be a professional jewel thief any time soon. She is too intelligent for that life!
A nice regimen of anti-psychotics would fix her up.
What a depressing story.
Let’s look at this from a behavioral psychology point of view. What does this woman gain from these behaviors?
It does seem to indicate deep rooted sexual doubts, maybe indicative of past sexual abuse or molestation.
She’s getting attention, by presenting herself as sexually promiscuous she could be seeking an aura of desireablilty, saying to others” Look at me, I’m so attractive that I was attacked!”, without actually having to engage in sexual activity. Letters written to present herself as promiscuous would have the same general effect, presenting herself as so desirable that men can’t leave her alone.
Sounds to me like a VERY deepseated fear of sexuality but normal desires to be seen as attractive, a pathological fear of engagement with another human being along with a more normal desire to be seen as sexually attractive. Presenting herself as promiscuous may be a way of semi-approaching others, saying to people around her “I’m easy, just try me”. It would be interesting to know how she reacted when approached by others.
I just wanted to say that I came to this site expecting snarky sarcastic humor to be the most profound insight into the stories. Reading the responses to some of them, however, I’ve found you write not only eloq1uently but very deeply. I think the last paragraph of this article hits the nail on the head. Tragic, but sincerely accurate.
Thanks, Veovis. That’s very kind of you to say.
I agree. This woman has a lot of problems, and she cannot deal with them in a rational manner. The last part of the article sums it up well. She sees these negative things in herself, and she projects them on to her employees (lack of morals), having them suppositely rape her. She is full of self-loathing.
Just about a walking definition of, ” Has Issues “, isn’t she? Poor girl.
” It would be interesting to know how she reacted when approached by others. ”
Wouldn’t it though?
There is a person that if she doesn’t like your sexual philosophy will have you canned, but is not afraid to bear her can!
