The “2 Girls, 1 Cup” Phenomenon, Part 3
The “2 Girls, 1 Cup” Phenomenon overviewed the notorious coprophilia video and the strange fad for making videos of people reacting to it. The “2 Girls, 1 Cup” Phenomenon, Part 2 tried to comprehend what drives the fad, what compels people to expose themselves to a video of sexual activity that they most likely find repellent. You didn’t realize this was going to be Coprophilia Week at PervScan, did you? No wonder there have been fewer comments than usual.
While you may laugh to watch the reaction videos, which show people unable to withstand the mere sight of something that the actresses endured in reality, do you find anything perverse about them? It goes without saying that coprophilia and coprophagia have typically been considered perverse activities. But is it also perverse to want to watch coprophilia, knowing full well that the sight of it will nauseate you? More generally, what is the relationship between disgust and perversion? Many of the sexual practices traditionally considered deviant are also sick-making — a connection made clear in the “2 Girls, 1 Cup” reaction videos, in which people are barely able to refrain from puking while watching a fetish activity.
Clearly perversion and disgust share a border deep in the psyche. Disgust researchers have remarked on this:
Core disgust was “designed” as a food rejection system, as indicated by its link to nausea, its concerns about contamination, and its nasal/oral facial expression. Human societies, however, need to reject many things, including sexual and social “deviants”. Core disgust may have been preadapted as a rejection system, easily harnessed to other kinds of rejection… Human societies take advantage of the schemata of core disgust in constructing their moral and social lives, and in socializing their children about what to avoid.
In other words, disgust is essentially the way that the animal in us keeps itself from ingesting toxins — and perversion is the way that the human in us willfully ignores this impulse. “Ugh,” says the body, “don’t put shit in your mouth.” To which the mind retorts, “Why not? Just a little won’t hurt. And it might be interesting. Here now, crap in this cup and let’s see…”
Lord help me, as disgusting as it sounds, I want to see that video..just can’t find it.
“Sexual behavior with fecal matter” — do enemas count?
I like your analysis of this phenomenon. Now you say it, I see how it’s actually strange that some people force themselfs through this video, despite the fact that it makes them feel sick.
I’ll have to think about that for a while, although I’d see peer pressure and it’s implications as the most important factor, and not some intrinsical motivation.
I saw the video “2 Girls 1 Cup” about a week ago. It was extremely disgusting, but I wasn’t too disgusted with my reactions. I just watched it, and thought something of the gyst “OK, this is really disgusting, but it’s not getting to me”. I sat there with more or less a straight face, and thus did not gag, retch, or actually throw up. I also saw the reaction videos, these people were hysterical. I guess different people react differently to various disgusting stimuli.
Eh, I voted the video a 3. It’s really no big deal, imo. I’ve watched lots of scat porn, though, and am generally unfazed by fecal matter. Vomit, however, grosses me out majorly, even obviously faked depictions in movies and TV shows. And I definitely don’t think watching scat porn makes you more likely to engage in scat behavior. It may acclimate you to the idea and push you over that last step, but I think you would have had to have already harbored significant desire to do such things in the first place. You’d get around to it eventually, but the movies may make it happen a little sooner. I don’t think it’ll “convert” anyone who doesn’t already on some deep level find it appealing.
