“A CBS-TV employee is accused of soliciting sex from an 11-year-old girl in exchange for tickets to a Miami Dolphins football game, police said. Daniel Barron, 56, was arrested and charged with solicitation to commit sexual battery on a child under the age of 12 Saturday. Police said Barron, a CBS sports television producer, chatted on the Internet with an undercover detective who was posing as a father willing to let Barron have sex with his 11-year-old daughter as well as sleep nude with her in exchange for tickets to the Miami Dolphins football game Sunday. According to a police report, Barron told the undercover officer that he was looking forward to meeting the daughter, allegedly telling the detective, ‘I will be very gentle with her.’ St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara said that Barron was arrested when he went to meet the people he thought would be the father and daughter in the parking lot of a Ft. Lauderdale hotel on Saturday… According to a police report, after his arrest, Barron admitted to also using his CBS-owned computer to download and exchange child porn. You have to wonder about a guy who believes a father would let his adolescent daughter be fucked by a stranger in exchange for some regular-season tickets. If it was a pair of Superbowl tickets, you might be able to understand. But regular tickets for the winless Dolphins? That would hardly be worth a grope, let alone a full-scale fuck.

Seriously, though, it would be enlightening to know the thought process of a guy who believes that a girl’s hymen is worth no more to her father than a pair of seats on the fifty yard line. Perhaps he is simply the kind of person who believes that everyone has a price — politicians sell out, cops can be bought, clerics take bribes, dads pimp their daughters. If the guy views the world through such a deeply cynical lens, he views sex through it too. It’s all a matter of price, he might think, gloating over the bargains he can arrange. “This is better than selling those tickets on ebay,” he imagines himself thinking as he penetrates adolescent thighs.

Or perhaps the confounding thing is that a guy such as this has no thought process for us to comprehend. He simply has a desire — little girl, little girl, little girl — and it swells up in his brain, crowding out the ability to think rationally. Is that it? Is it merely cynical or is it completely irrational to think that dad will swap his daughter for three hours with a losing team?
