“A woman pushes a baby carriage across the complex’s manicured lawn, a child zips across a parking lot on a scooter, and couples stroll around the lake as Canada geese fly overhead. But indoors at the sprawling Fountains at Lakeside Park apartment complex, a 33-year-old mother of four claims on her Web site she is providing a virtual peep show via three Web cameras, including one with night vision, in her two-story townhome. The apartment occupant, Jennifer S. Lunsford, is touted on the Web site as ‘Naughty Wife Next Door!’ and she is being investigated for possible violation of the community’s sexually-oriented business laws. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday. Her husband says the Web site may be distasteful to some, but it is not illegal. According to a search warrant returned Tuesday, Fort Mitchell police took computers, a digital camera, a video camera, and financial documents from the apartment off Buttermilk Pike in a raid on Friday. The search followed a two-month investigation into the Internet sex site… Fort Mitchell police Chief Steve Hensley said detectives recovered evidence that sex acts involving consenting adults were allegedly filmed in the apartment and were broadcast over the Internet, an alleged violation of the city’s ordinance.” — Cincinnati Enquirer (US)

Here is a picture of Ms. Lunsford and her husband being raided by police. You can find sexier pictures of her posing and performing under the name “Jen Madison.” This is her official site, her blog, her video site, and her MySpace page. There is a backstory involving a disgruntled client ratting the couple out. The good news is that their business violated nothing more than zoning laws. The bad news is that it can’t be comfortable raising children in a small southern community where you’re known as a pornographer. Unsurprisingly, the Lunsfords are reported to have fled Kentucky. That was probably the exact solution that neighbors wanted.

Somehow the whole story is sad. There is nothing whatsoever to indicate that Ms. Lunsford’s small business detracts from her ability to be a great mom. Admittedly, being a small-time pornographer must have its pitfalls. There’s no health insurance or retirement savings. The whole thing depends on Ms. Lunsford’s continued attractiveness. But these are the sorts of issues that dog any small business. There are no “moral” reasons a woman can’t maintain an unusual sexual lifestyle while raising perfectly healthy children.

For that matter, you can’t help but wonder if it might even be better for a parent to be a small-time pornographer than a 9-to-5 grinder. If you can earn a living spending a few hours making porn at night, it gives you the liberty to be with your children all day. Isn’t that better than raising your children with babysitters and nannies, only giving them your time on the weekends? Which is worse — a “naughty” stay-at-home mom or a mom who’s never home?
