“Just after 5am on Tuesday, Police Lieutenant Colonel Santi from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Sabai Lodge in Soi 2 off Pattaya Second Road after a complaint was received from an Indian Hotel Guest who claimed he had just been robbed of a mobile phone. The complaint was made by Mr. Balvender Sing aged 30 from India who explained to Police that he had taken a transsexual from a Walking Street Go-Go Bar back to his room for sex. Mr. Sing went to use the toilet and when he came back he realized that the transsexual later identified as Khun Pisanoo aged 23, had left. Mr. Sing gave chase and passers-by apprehended the suspected thief who was later arrested by Police who arrived at the scene. Khun Pisanoo claimed that Mr. Sing agreed a price of 1,000 Baht for sex but only paid the transsexual 500 Baht upon completion. This angered Khun Pisanoo who decided to steal the phone from the room. Pattaya is a city in Thailand. Evidently the place was a prostitution boomtown during the Vietnam conflict, then segued into sex tourism after the American soldiers went home. If you read the headlines of the local paper, a good third of them seem to relate to the sex trade: English Man arrested by Tourist Police accused of conducting lewd acts with minors… English Man Wanted in UK arrested after he steals gold and money from Bar Girl… Transsexual steals 50,000 Baht from Englishman sheltering from the rain… Suspected Uzbekistani Prostitutes arrested on Walking Street… Evidently Walking Street is also known as “Disneyland for Adults.” You get the idea.

This story about the transsexual prostitute stealing his john’s cellphone is nothing new. Any seasoned sex tourist knows that petty thievery comes with the turf, like mosquitoes on a jungle safari. Go have a look at the original story so you can see those pictures of the tranny — he’s relatively pretty — sitting around some police holding pen. It’s something you can observe in any city in the world: waiting, boredom, law and justice caught in bureaucratic entropy. Getting arrested is scary, but it’s also tiresome.

It almost makes you wonder what the point of sex tourism is. So much of the world is the same nowadays.
