China Battles Online Porn
“The Chinese government is launching a new crackdown on online pornography, complaining it has ‘perverted China’s young minds,’ a state news agency said Friday. The Ministry of Public Security says the six-month campaign will target cyber strip shows and sexually explicit images, stories and audio and video clips… ‘The boom of pornographic content on the Internet has contaminated cyberspace and perverted China’s young minds,’ Zhang Xinfeng, a deputy public security minister, was quoted as saying Thursday… In China’s biggest online porn case to date, Web site operator Chen Hui was sentenced in November to life in prison. The government said his Web site had more than 9 million pornographic images and more than 600,000 registered users. China has the world’s second-biggest population of Internet users after the United States, with 137 million people online. The communist government encourages Internet use for education and business but tries to block access to material considered obscene or subversive. ‘The inflow of pornographic materials from abroad and lax domestic control are to blame for the existing problems in China’s cyberspace,’ Zhang said. According to Xinhua, the Beijing Reformatory for Juvenile Delinquents said 33.5 percent of its detainees were influenced by violent online games or erotic Web sites when they committed crimes such as robbery and rape.” — AP (US)
It is difficult to sympathize with China’s assertion that pornography is “perverting young minds” when the country has a nasty habit of tossing away baby girls. According to a BBC story, as much as a seventh of female Chinese babies are tossed on garbage heaps — literally. The story tells how one garbage scavenger took the clothes off a baby then left it to die. It’s pretty repellent. You would think that baby genocide would be lower in the hierarchy of ethics than jerking off to porn, but evidently that’s not what Chinese bureaucrats think.
What makes this even more ironic is that China supplies a fair percentage of the females sold into sexual slavery worldwide. “From China and the Philippines, girls are delivered to prison-like brothels in the United States and Europe.” These girls populate the rub-and-tug joints — er, “spas” — in cities across the U.S. And probably a good number of them also appear in videos, live cam shows, and other forms of cyberporn. If so, it completes a vicious circle: China devalues its women; the women end up doing some form of sex work; the same guys who grow up to be Communist bureaucrats jerk off to porn featuring the women trafficked out of their own country.
If China is so concerned about the perversion of its young minds, maybe it should cease devaluing its women. If fewer female babies were tossed into the trash, there would eventually be more women — and if there were more women, maybe Chinese guys would be at least slightly less desirous of pornography.

Sounds like they are pissing into the wind (hmm…where have I heard that before?). Deputy public security minister Zhang Xinfeng feels that internet pornorgraphy has perverted China’s young minds (what about the old minds?) Perhaps Mr Zhang Xinfeng should take a look at the how his government views women in general, now that really perverted! Sounds like those in power fear they are loosing control of the oppressed! My God (er my Buddah!) they’re looking at pornographic images on the internet! What are they gonna be doing next? They’ll be getting ideas, they’ll set up chat rooms! We’ve got to stop this now!
