Scientists Try To Turn Gay Sheep Straight

“US scientists are conducting experiments which aim to change the sexuality of homosexual sheep. The news has provoked an outcry among the gay and lesbian community who fear it could pave the way for breeding out homosexuality in humans. One gay rights campaigner likened the research to eugenics, while former Wimbledon winner Martina Navratilova, who is a lesbian, labelled it ‘homophobic’. The experiments were authorised to help farmers, who complained they were losing out financially because on average one in 10 rams is gay. By studying the brains of the homosexual rams, scientists pinpointed the mechanisms influencing their sexual orientation. They gave the sheep injections to adjust the levels of hormones in their brains and some of the previously gay rams became attracted to ewes.” — News.com.au (Australia)

You can imagine the onslaught of ridiculous headlines that this story inspired: Gay Rams No Bull, Gay Rams Go Straight For Ewe, Fancy Meeting A Nice Boy Like Ewe, Gay Sheep Experiment Baaaad. A more level-headed article appeared in the British newspaper the Guardian. It clarified that all of the alarm about this research being preparatory to “turning gay humans straight” is nonsense. In the first place, the same researchers also did some experimental work attempting to turn straight sheep gay. (How come there was no heterosexual outcry?) In the second place, the Guardian claims that scientists “cleared up the question of Lamarckian inheritance of acquired traits 100 years ago. Even if you could intervene to make a gay human straight, you might reasonably expect this to make any inherited tendency towards homosexuality more prevalent, not less.”

It’s interesting that so much of this sort of research focuses on homosexuality. Evidently there are financial interests, since gay sheep don’t breed. But still, it would be fascinating to see scientists move beyond homosexuality into the other perversions. Could they make sadistic sheep more kind? Exhibitionistic sheep more inclined to keep their wool on? Pedophiliac sheep less tempted to make “sheep eyes” at Lolita sheep?

Interesting quest by these mad scientist…New Zealand”s agriculture minister has declared Feb. 15 as“National Lamb Day.” New Zealand has 4 million human inhabitants and 60 million sheep.
Agriculture Minister Jim Anderton said “We hope all New Zealanders will recognize this meat industry milestone and mark it by enjoying lamb for dinner on Feb. 15, to celebrate 125 years of meat exports.”
Well! Ram-a-Ram-a-Ding Dong!

According to dictionary.com, “preparatory” is the correct form of that word.

Right you are, Sven. You’re going to start shaming PervScan into using spellcheck! Or perhaps you can look on these little typos as signs of the white-hot uncensored unmediated ramblings and rantings you get here at the site. :-)

what a waste of time, effort and money on the part of these scientists.
who cares if these sheep are gay, cut your loses and make a roast out of them if they can’t be bred, if i’m not mistaken that is one of the reasons why sheep are bred on farms to begin with
