JonBenet Ramsey Suspect Arrested
You’d have to be living in a cave not to have heard that authorities have finally arrested a man suspected of murdering JonBenet Ramsey. There isn’t much point providing news links. It is more difficult to avoid than to find stories about John Mark Karr, the suspect arrested in Bangkok. However, if you want to follow the breaking news, there may be no better site to watch than Steve Huff’s CrimeBlog.us. An invariably thoughtful writer, Mr. Huff has been posting updates, analysis, and summaries of some fascinating websleuthing results — including the discovery of resumes that Mr. Karr posted online in an effort to find jobs teaching little children.
While this story will evolve dramatically over the coming days, weeks, and months, PervScan did want to make a few provisional observations about it. In the first place, the media has been rushing to say that JonBenet’s murder has been “solved” and that Mr. Karr has “confessed.” As of this writing, neither of these statements is true. Mr. Karr stated: “I was with JonBenet when she died… Her death was an accident.” This makes for an ambiguous confession. He does not say that he killed her. He only says that he was “with” her during an “accident.” This leaves open the possibility that there was an accomplice who actually killed JonBenet.
In the second place, suppose that Mr. Karr acted alone and that he did kill JonBenet. How in the world could this be an “accident?” If you’re trying to kidnap someone with a gun, you might be able to make a case that your weapon went off accidentally. But when you garotte somebody? This is a slow, intimate method of rendering death. You don’t put a garotte around the neck of a child and then “accidentally” tighten it until she suffocates. JonBenet wasn’t playing some crazy autoerotic asphyxiation game. (Believe it or not, this has actually been proposed.)
In the third place, Mr. Karr has already begun to make other claims bizarre enough to cause “legal experts” to doubt the validity of his “confession.” For example, he says he picked up JonBenet at school and then gave her drugs — both of which are demonstrably false. It suggests that he might be faking the whole thing. But why? Is he just one of those headjobs who likes to confess to murders? Is he a supergenius who sees that it will be easier for him to deal with the American legal system than with the Thai, where he is a suspect in a different crime? Is he a terrorist stooge, paid by Southeast Asian Muslims to divert attention from the recent airplane bombing plot?
And yet police arrested him. Were they simply desperate to put an end to this most notorious of cold cases? Or do they possess some sort of evidence that has yet to be explained to the public? After all, if there is no physical evidence connecting Mr. Karr to the crime, it is quite possible that he learned some unpublicized and therefore incriminating details from other sources. The guy obviously travelled in pedophile circles. Maybe he met or corresponded with JonBenet’s real killer. Maybe he gleaned some info that would look like a tip-off to police.
Who knows? Until further details emerge, all you can say for certain is that the murder of JonBenet Ramsey has not yet been “solved” and that Mr. Karr, creepy-looking as he is, is one more human pathogen in the plague that pedophilia has become.
An unknown source was quoted as hearing Karr say “yes, yes I did it, and I also did Nicole Simpson, and I’m, I’m, I’m a serial killer too, and I also make crop circles and uh..just get me outta this damn place and I’ll tell you every thing!
Damn. Guess I’ve been living in a cave then? Oops. Looks like I have some reading to do here …..
Later!
