Kitty Fiddling
“A sexual abuse support group is furious the SPCA has launched an advertising campaign that warns of a sex offender in the community, to encourage people to desex their animals. The SPCA has put up the posters in South Auckland as part of efforts to cut the number of excess animals in the area. The poster reads ‘a sexual offender offender has moved into our neighbourhood. He has violated females as young as five-months-old.’ It later says ‘desex your pet now.’ Katherine McPhillips of Auckland’s Sexual Abuse HELP foundation is appalled by the ad, which she says trivialises sex abuse. The posters also liken un-neutered cats to child sex offenders and call for an end to ‘kitty fiddling’. ‘There is simply no way any organisation dealing with sex offence in the New Zealand community would ever trivialise this issue by referring to it as kitty fiddling. Sexual molestation is a hugely serious issue,’ anti-abuse campaigner Denise Ritchie says.” — TVNZ (New Zealand)
It was tempting to file this under the Bestiality category, simply because it conjoins sex and animals, but then the zoerasts who visit the site will complain that the story shows not a love but a hatred of animals. “Why desex those poor kitties?” the zoerasts will cry. “We like their sex!”
Anyway, it’s hard not to wonder if the SPCA is starting to emulate the always controversial advertising tactics of PETA. Representatives of the group claim that they did not intend to offend but merely to lessen the number of cats it has to put to death — 12,000 just last year. At the same time, though, they must have realized that comparing cats to sex offenders would draw attention. SPCA chief executive Bob Kerridge told the paper: “We have to stop that stupid loss of life, so if it takes hardball to do it, we’ll go hardball.” He hardly sounds apologetic.
Underneath all the brouhaha, though, you almost have to wonder if the ad campaign makes a valid point. The SPCA poster claims that cats “violate females as young as five-months old.” To what does that compare in human terms — a twelve-year-old human nymphet? More? Less? It makes you wonder about the naturalness — the biological origins — of pedophilic desires. If cats don’t distinguish between young and old, should man?
Nymphets and their obvious origin in a story of pedophilia notwithstanding, girls were expected to be wives and mothers by, if not twelve, certainly fourteen, throughout most of history. And now eighteen is the youngest we consider humane, and this as our children mature [sexually, anyway] faster!
There is good marketing, there is bad marketing, and then there is equating child sex abuse with cats in heat, attracting male cats (which results in many poor unwanted cats and kittens being put down). Kitty Fiddling? That’s just stupid. Not creative. Not cute. Stupid. Just put Bob Barker on a poster or something, what does he say?…–”Help control the pet population: Spay or neuter your pet.” There. See how easy that was?
” Anyway, it’s hard not to wonder if the SPCA is starting to emulate the always controversial advertising tactics of PETA. ”
Of course they are. They’re Paid by PETA.
PETA has the avowed aim of seeing off every last pet animal on the planet. They kill as many as they can themselves. That’s why they have the massive, walk in deep freeze right under their HQ - saves the bad publicity attracted when their people get caught stuffing the dead pet animals they’ve killed into public rubbish bins.
And the world ‘SPCA’s are simply money making machines. About twenty years or so back a bunch of anti hunting sorts attended the AGM of Englands RSPCA and demanded to know why they (rspca) claimed they *Had To* execute millions of pets a year, ‘ Because they simply couldn’t afford to keep them alive. Too expensive.’
Then these people asked the rspca to explain how that was, when the records showed the rspca had - at that time, Four Zero MILLION Pounds set aside in a slush fund. For a rainy day.
They were slung out of the AGM, sans response.
What’s the intrest, over twenty odd years, on forty million sterling?
my anser is desex your cat now male or female, every cat i have ever owned has been spayed and i have no complaints so far it makes them friendy and more affectionate and they live longer with no unwanted breeding i say the fee for desexing was so worth it
People don’t realize that feral cats can create a very hazardous situation for people and other animals. A retired woman in my area was recently billed $30,000 by her town because of several inches of cat dung and urine created a public health hazard. The woman, feeling overrun by the 30 cats, had no choice but to leave 2 years ago.
Another situation happens when wild unneutered cats are roaming the streets. They can and do frequently get very territorial, and have been known to attack people and other pets. If someone with a weak immune system were scratched by the cats, results could be fatal.
