Sheep-Sex Case Is No Laughing Matter to Area Woman

Sometimes the small details of a case elevate it from police blodder to pop art. There’s the irony that the molested sheep were named Thelma and Louise, after the movie acclaimed by feminists. There’s the odd fact that the case itself has become a cause célèbre for animal activists, prompting comedian Richard Pryor to write a deathbed note asking the judge to throw the book at the perp. (Richard Pryor? Since when does he have any weight with the court?) There’s the $1000 spent by taxpayers so that the police could perform a DNA analysis of Mr Haynes’ semen — a price that is probably more than the value of the two molested sheep themselves. There’s the odd dialogue that took place between police, armed with DNA proof, and Mr. Haynes.
“Unless there’s an alien that lives on Mars that came down here and … has your DNA,” Bush said, pausing, “do you understand what I’m saying?”
“Um hmm,” Haynes acknowledged. He said later: “If I did do it, which I’m saying I’m not, that is a sick person, and if I did do it, I’m sick.”
Sick indeed. Here is a picture of the perp, Mr. Haynes. Frankly the guy does look a little demented.
Peculiar details aside, this case has become particularly controversial for the fact that the judge ordered Mr. Haynes to be placed on a sex offender registry. While it is not clear that the law allows for someone convicted of bestiality to be placed on a registry, an honor normally reserved for rapists and child molestors, the judge justified his decision as follows: “This act is so representative of someone who is sexually perverted that I will order he register on the sex offender list.” It’s a dubious justification. It’s not illegal to be perverted per se. What’s more, the notion of punishing someone for an act that is “representative” of other acts is troubling. Suppose a hunter is caught taking game out of season. Is that act “representative” of an unbridled impulse to kill? Should the hunter be punished the same as someone who’s committed murder?
At the same time, it’s hard not to deny that Mr. Haynes, who had a petty rap sheet prior to this bestiality arrest, has some issues. He protested long and loud that “I should not be treated as a child molester,” and probably he shouldn’t be. But then again, would you want this guy hanging around your children?
It’s pretty obvious that the judge was right when he stated that Mr. Haynes actions are “representative of someone who is sexually perverted”.
To that I say “so fucking what.” That still doesn’t qualify him as a canidate for the sex offender list unless it’s a list of sheep sex offenders.
At his trial Assistant Prosecutor Tamara Towns argued that while the crime was not against a person, Haynes should be ordered to register as a sex offender because it’s possible that once out of prison he would prey on children or vulnerable adults.
“He is a predator,” Towns said.
This man hating bitch is so full of shit, it’s coming out her ears. Does she propose to place someone on a sex offender list because of what they might possibly do, even though they have never sexually offended any person. This is a very misguided use of a system that was designed to identify REAL PREDATORS, not some slob who fucked a sheep one night out in a tin roofed barn.
