“Horrified San Franciscans can finally open up their windows without fear again: police bagged the peeing prowler. A fiend with a yen for relieving himself through the open windows of local houses and apartments was behind bars Thursday after cops issued a $25,000 warrant for his arrest, according to local CBS 5 Bay City News. Residents spotted 19-year-old Moises Coralles of Redwood City Saturday night, urinating into the window of their Menlo Park home, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office reported. The sheriff’s office told Bay City News the disgusted dwellers confronted the prowler as he strolled from the back of the yard — still zipping up his pants… Police nabbed Coralles at 9 p.m. Wednesday — booking him at the San Mateo County jail on suspicion of prowling, according to the sheriff’s office. Coralles had already been to prison three times for indecent exposure and prowling in 2005 — and was out on bail for those incidents at the time of Saturday’s incident, the sheriff’s office reported.” — Fox News (US)

So was this the “peeing” or the “peeping” prowler? Some news outlets posted the story in its scatological form, others in voyeuristic form. Fox opted for the “urine jail” version, but here’s a peeping Tom version too. The very fact that there’s a discrepancy would incline you to think that “peeing” was a typo and really the guy was “peering.” Peering and peeping are a much more common act than peeing into somebody’s window, so Occam’s razor would suggest opting for that version of the story.

But if really the guy was peeping, how did Fox end up with that level of urinary detail in its story? It cleary says residents spotted Mr. Coralles “urinating,” and that they saw him “still zipping up his pants.” If he was just peeping, did someone at Fox invent those details based on nothing more than a typo? So much for “Fair and Balanced,” Fox’s motto. It’s hard not to wonder if certain news outlets had it in for Mr. Corrales because of his political beliefs. In addition to his indecent exposure and prowling arrests, he was also once arrested — wrongly, he claimed — at an anti-war protest in Hollywood. (Scroll down to the headline that reads, “Update!! All that being said, it’s hard not to be disappointed if the guy were just a peeper. Ho hum. It’s not a very novel perversion when you compare it with going around and urinating into the windows of strangers.
