“A 75-year-old Amish widower who was afraid his church community would find out about his seeking sex from a prostitute was scammed out of more than $67,000 from the prostitute and her boyfriend, a prosecutor said. The widower, Jake Byler of Burton Township, gave the two money because they had convinced him that photos of Byler and the prostitute would appear on the Internet, Geauga County Prosecutor David Joyce said. Kimberly Webber, 35, and Patrick Lansdowne, 41, of Cleveland, were indicted Tuesday on six felony charges, including extortion, theft from an elderly person and burglary. Authorities said Byler was seeking sex when he responded to a newspaper ad and was referred to Webber, who met with him about six times beginning in early 2004. Joyce said Byler’s bank became suspicious about large withdrawals from his account this year and notified his son and daughter-in-law, who had power of attorney. The daughter-in-law contacted the sheriff’s department. Byler told detectives that Lansdowne had convinced him that someone had broken into his rural home east of Cleveland and installed a camera in the bedroom and that Lansdowne knew a man who would get rid of the pictures for money. Byler tapped into his accounts, took out a loan and turned over cash he had in his home. ‘When he realized he was getting duped, he … broke down and started to cry,’ Joyce said.” — Chicago Tribune (US)

PervScan used to know a girl who once worked in a massage parlor near the Amish community in Reading, Pennsylvania. Somehow it seemed funny to imagine one of these holier-than-thou “religious” folks parking his horse and buggy outside her workplace, but this girl took an entirely matter-of-fact attitude toward the Amish. To her they were just another client — which makes sense. Once somebody takes his clothes off, he’s just another piece of meat.

To Ms. Webber and her boyfriend, however, her Amish client was not only a piece of meat, he was a roast. Once you look past whatever humor you might find in the thought of an Amish guy patronizing a hooker — somehow it’s always funny to see religious people in compromising positions — you might see that this is really a sad story. On one hand, it’s depressing to see a 75-year-old man scammed out of his savings. That’s like stealing from your great-grandfather! And on the other hand, you can also understand why a hooker might scam her client. It’s not an easy job, after all.

An old man robbed by a girl who sells her body for a living — there’s no hero in that story. It’s lose-lose all around.
