Funeral Director Caught in an Online Sex Sting
“One of the directors of a borough funeral home has been charged with attempted sexual assault for allegedly sending sexual photos to an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl, authorities said Wednesday. David J. Curry, 46, an Elmwood Park resident who was one of two directors of the Louis Suburban Memorial Chapel, was arrested about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday after he allegedly engaged in an online chat from a computer at his home, said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli. After the online conversation turned ’sexually explicit,’ Molinelli said, Curry sent the undercover agent a photo of him exposing himself. Curry was arrested after he allegedly asked the girl to meet him at an undisclosed location for sex, the prosecutor said. Curry had been working at the funeral home for about five years, said manager Richard Louis, whose father founded the business. Louis said Curry was a good employee who was never unprofessional with clients.” —Bergen.com (US)
Middle-aged man arrested for soliciting sex from minor online — you wouldn’t believe how commonplace this story has become unless, like PervScan, you’d spent the last few years skimming through thirty sex crimes a day. Given the number of sting operations online, you certainly have to wonder about any middle-aged dude foolish or desperate enough to think some nymphet Lolita chick wants to screw his brains out. Get wise, guys. These girls don’t want you. They want Brad Pitt.
That being said, the thing that strikes you in this story is simply the fact that the perp is a funeral home director. Really there shouldn’t be anything striking about this. It’s a job like any other. But because few jobs involve the management of cadavers, and because dead bodies are intrinsically fascinating, this little fact leaps out at you. It hints — probably falsely — at obsessions more lurid than the kinderlust on the surface, perhaps at necrophilia or worse.
Really, though, there’s a rather desultory truth lurking behind this random fact. If you commit a crime, odds are you’ll be listed in the paper according to several factors: your age, your ethnicity, your family status, and your profession. And when you think about it that way, it’s a rather depressing truth. How many people have an entirely stupid, meaningless job but think of themselves as something much better than that? “I may be a janitor at Wal-Mart, but really I’m a This or a That or a Community Leader or Big Man on Campus or an Unsung Hero or blah blah blah.” But then you do something wrong and wham! The newspapers all smack you back down to what you are: a middle-aged man, a father of two, a janitor — and now a sex offender too.
Im not really sure what to think about these kind of stories. I read them constantly in the news and to me they just smell of “entrapment”.
Now let me get this straight: This perp is a perv who sent a photo to policeman posing as a promiscuious
pre-adult. Now the persistent prosecutor wants to persecute him for being a pedophile.
First of all, a 14 year old is not a child anymore but usually pubescent and thus an adult from nature’s point of view. Has nothing to do with pedophilia.
Second, I wonder how many female “perpetrators” would get caught if police posed as 14 year old boys. Then again, the usual “the guy was lucky” nonsense would have her get nothing more than a slap on the wrist, which has been proven by courts time after time.
The whole molester panic is fueled by these entrapment stings, and then police uses to to promote the fear of molesters in order to get more money so they can run more stings.
Online Molesters are the “crack babies” of this decade. Every few years the law enforcement industry finds some panic to use as a marketing tool to get more money.
People have wised up to the War on Drugs scam, and the Satanic Ritual Abuse Scam, so now it is the online molester scam.
Law enforcement is a unionized trade, and the goal of any union worker is to do the least work for the most money.
Cruising chat rooms sure is an easier job then going after real predators.
Law enfroce is all about quanity, not quality.
