Student Suspended After Wearing Penis Costume
“A Steilacoom student is fighting a decision by school officials to suspend him for three days after he appeared in an inflatable penis costume outside another school’s homecoming dance, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported. Pioneer Middle School student James Watkins bought the costume last weekend and later showed up outside a dance at Steilacoom High School wearing the outfit. His parents described Watkins as a straight-A student, an athlete and a ‘good kid’ who made a mistake. They said the three-day suspension, along with a sexual harassment citation, are too severe. ‘He wasn’t even on his own school grounds,’ said Mark Watkins, his father. ‘Poor decision, I agree. Disciplinary action? I agree. I think they went way too far.’ ‘The thing I felt was wrong was that they weren’t giving us any rights for a first offense,’ said Lori Watkins, James’ mother. ‘I don’t like the sexual harassment on there. If you go visit the original source for this story, be sure to watch the video. There’s something intrinsically funny about watching some kid’s parents defend him for having worn a penis costume. At the same time, though, you also have to admit that they have a valid point. It’s one thing to suspend the kid from school for a few days. That seems reasonable. A kid can get suspended for dumber reasons. But it’s another thing altogether to charge the boy with sexual harassment. That’s ridiculous. He didn’t touch anybody. He didn’t expose himself. He didn’t single any one person out for unwanted attention. All he did was mock the prom of a competing school. How’s that sexual harassment?
No doubt the only reason for citing the boy for sexual harassment is the fact that his costume was shaped like a penis. But think about that for a second. Suppose the kid had donned one of those bloody-axe-through-the-head costumes. If you want to be literal-minded about it, such a costume implies something worse — violence, loss of life — than anything that a caricature of a penis implies. Would they have charged the boy with assault for wearing a monster costume? Of course not. Similarly, there’s no reason to cite the boy with sexual harassment just because his costume depicted a genital.
Maybe the boy dressed up like a penis, but evidently it’s the politically correct school administrators who are the real dicks in this case.

at day camp when I was eleven. The head councelor wanted to shove his fist down my throat for that act! You have to forgive that teen, O.K. so you suspend him, but in the long run he has to be forgiven. The guy was just fourteen! Also he should not really be charged with sexual harassment, I mean, who the heck was he harassing anyway?! I have been reading PervScan for at least a year now, and I think it is a cool site!

I had made a penis sculpture myself in day camp when I was eleven. The head councelor/and concelor boss in anger threatened to shove his fist down my throat. Even if the kid hadn’t worn the costume but only taunted kids at the other school that’d be grounds for detention or suspension. The reason is it can incite violence between students of rival schools and school admin want to discourage that. I don’t see what his parents are whining about. When I was a kid I played sexual jokes and got busted for them by school admin too. Admin even told me privately my jokes were very funny but that officially they’d have to punish me. Okay. It’s all part of the game of growing up and learning there’s consequences to breaking rules.
