Police Say Burglar Caught in the Act
“Police say they caught a serial burglar in the act — a sex act. Officers found Robert Calloway in the basement of an apartment building he had broken into, police said. Authorities said Calloway was having sex with a woman. He was charged with Monday’s break-in in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood, as well as in three others in recent weeks. The woman, Vera Morris, also was charged. Calloway, 40, matches the description of a man caught on surveillance tape breaking into the basements of other apartment buildings, police said. In all the cases, Calloway is accused of prying the locks from storage area doors. Sometimes nothing was reported missing; in other cases, a leaf blower, gas can, and tool box were taken, police said. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney. It’s a common name, but if the Vera Morris in the story were the former Miss North Carolina, you might see how a man would be overtaken by lust in the midst of his burglary. Otherwise it’s hard to fathom. Why linger at the scene of the crime? Why increase the amount of time in which someone might discover you and call the cops? Did the guy want to get caught? Was he too bold? Or just plain dumb?
Then again, to look at it that way is to look at the matter from a criminal and not a sexual point of view. Criminally speaking, this was as dumb as it gets. But from the sexual standpoint? Possibly it made for a quite thrilling form of exhibitionism. You can almost imagine people making a fetish out of it — break into a building, smash some windows, make some noise to alert the neighbors, and then time your mutual climax to the oncoming wail of sirens. Or perhaps set fire to a building and then exult in the way the flames illuminate your naked bodies as neighbors gather and you diddle while Rome burns…
There could be some weird thrill there, the possibility for capture and exposure lending an urgency to passion. Or there could just be criminal stupidity since, after all, few orgasms are worth a jail sentence.

and that he was on top of the world and all. That is also what made him dumb as dirt!
