Just because he didn't leave his sperm doesn't mean he didn't leave *something*. Locard's Exchange and all that. He didn't necessarily confess just for the heck of it, maybe they found evidence he was there. Kinda puts him out on the edge of the curve, though; most rapes are supposedly crimes of opportunity, whereas here's this guy doing some serious planning ahead.
