Neighbor Stole ID to Join Porn Sites
“Police said a town man stole his neighbor’s identity and used it to subscribe to several pornographic Web sites. Jermaine Williams, 23, of Post Road, was charged Wednesday with third-degree identity theft and larceny in the sixth degree… The victim told police that between June 21 and 26 someone had withdrawn $364 from his checking account and used the money to subscribe to several Web sites, including Xratedmidgets.com, Beefychikks.com and Largegirlxxx.com. First reaction to this story: What an idiot! Committing a cybercrime while using your own AOL address is like showing a bank clerk your ATM card before trying to rob him. Every AOL address is easily traceable. If you’re going to dabble in identity theft and cybercrime, at least have the wits to sign up for a free email account somewhere that can’t be traced back to you. Idiot.
Second reaction to this story: If you try visiting the three porn sites the guy allegedly subscribed to, you’ll understand why he used somebody else’s checking account to pay for them. They’re awful — not because they offer up midgets and fat chicks, but because they’re poorly designed, run-of-the-mill, crappy-looking porn sites. The only way in the world you’d pay for these is if you could use somebody else’s cash. Maybe the perp isn’t such an idiot after all.
Third reaction to this story: The last site mentioned in the news article, Largegirlxxx.com, isn’t even online. If you try to visit it, you’ll get an empty web directory. According to the records at archive.org, this site has never been anything more than an empty directory. This would imply that it’s technically impossible to subscribe to this site because there is nothing there to subscribe to.
If you google the url it turns up a few sites that show the same thumbnail page that appears to link back to Largegirlxxx.com. But really those link up to largegirlsxxx.com (with an s). The latter is a different site owned by a different company. All this would imply that the guy subscribed to the latter, and that either the police or the newspaper reported the site wrong. So maybe they’re idiots? Maybe everybody involved with this story is an idiot?
