Police Chief Arrested in Sting
“An Internet-generated rendezvous has landed the Kahoka chief of police in hot water. According to the Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, Kahoka Police Chief Steve L. Edlen, 51, is facing numerous charges following his arrest in Chillicothe last week. Published reports stated that Edlen reportedly entered into an Internet chat room where he met with an adult woman, who actually turned out to be an undercover member of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. KMBC-TV reported the Internet chat turned sexual in nature and also involved animals and drugs before ultimately concluding with a planned meeting at a Chillicothe hotel. When Edlen arrived at the meeting sight Thursday, July 21, the police chief was arrested. Edlen was found to be in possession of less than five grams of marijuana at the time of his arrest. He was charged in Livingston County with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. He also was charged with attempting illegal sex acts with an animal (dog).” —Memphis Democrat (US)

It’s not quite clear what Chief Edlen — who, with his strong but dimpled chin, looks pretty much like a cop — intended to do with the dog. The sheriff conducting the sting, ironically named Cox, arranged to bring a dog when meeting Chief Edlen. At the actual meeting, an “undercover female deputy, accompanied by a dog, met with Edlen, who said he’d brought marijuana and described various sex acts he wanted to perform with the male dog.” That last line leaves a lot of room for interpretation. Did the chief say that he himself wanted to get it on with the dog? Was he under the belief that this was something the “woman” did anyway? And for that matter, to describe a sex act is not to commit it. Since when is it illegal to describe a fantasy to someone?
Odds are that the drug charges will stick to Chief Edlen, since it wasn’t even the first time he was arrested for possession. But the sex charges? When all is said and done, they seem sensationalistic but groundless. After all, he wasn’t trying to pick up a youngster, and he did not actually do anything to the dog. The court will be satisfied punishing him for the marijuana, leaving the papers to have their fun with the allegations of lurid sex practices.
If you happen to be a zoophile, though, this story ought to frighten you. Why? Because it indicates that police stings may now target not just pedophiles but animal lovers too. Thanks mostly to the internet, people have become more aware of bestiality in recent times. And with this increase in awareness, will there not likely come an increase in law enforcement? As the horse case in Washington has demonstrated, there are places where bestiality is not technically illegal. But in those places where it is, don’t expect the police to ignore it — unless, like Chief Edlen, they secretly enjoy it themselves.
A typical case of police entrapment. At least its against one of their own. The ‘moralist’ outlook of most police never ceases to amaze me. Makes you wonder what, if anything, they learn about civil rights when they train to be cops. My personal impression is they learn only how to ‘work around’ them.
steve edlen is a mean man not to mention sick. I know him personally and am happy the bastard is in jail and hope he gets the 19+ years he faces.he may have been a cop,but the whole time while on duty he was not where he should have been. and he had always tried to get himself out of trouble by using his badge.he is a loser and should rot in hell along with his family.the only innocent people in this whole thing is 2 very young children that have a loser for a father, if you want to call him that. it may be true that there isnt any proof he was going to have sex with a dog but i belive that he was,and i am glad he finally got what he deserves.
This is one case where the “Officer, I was never there” excuse won’t work.
Me and alot of other people knew how steve was and worked. i am surprised that he didnt get his badge taken away when he got his dwi a couple of years ago in his mustang, not to mention he threatend someones life that night. steve always said that this one house was “bad” and his son couldnt go over there but this ladies son could come over to his house. Them people go raided on June 22 and i dont think it is bad as Steve ‘the animal lover’ Edlen. everyone knew how he worked, he got paid off by certain individuals,and on top of his dresser in his safe, was stolen weed from the evidence room in kahoka. there was six dime bags… he had some good stuff too, but i dont know how he didnt get caught faster. he got high in his attic like nuthin happened, i mean i dont see nothin with gettin high, its like our american heritage, to live, to serve, and to get high. now stickin it to dogs in different, steve was a player, he always had bitches. 51 years old and gettin more than me, and he still goes for a four legged female. well thats all i got to say about him for now.
Re: the question as to whether Steve intended to do anything sexual to the dog. The answer is yes. I am friends with law enforcement officials who have some familiarity of Steve’s arrest for DEVIANT BEHAVIOR and who specifically stated Steve planned to have anal sex with the pooch and indicated this intention on-line to the investigator. What’s truly disturbing is that Kahoka’s City Council would knowingly allow a police chief to retain his position after being arrested for DWI.
What kind of message does this council send to it’s citizens in terms of integrity and safety? The conclusion is obvious. If money’s an issue have the Judge Moon write a grant to get competent law enforcement personnel. I’m grateful I don’t live there, it’s a mess!
Since I last posted, I have found more info about Steve, Not only was he planing on having sex with this dog(he did plead guilty to it and i have met a man that was in the army with him and was an in law at one time, this man has told me things that i didnt know)Steve also is Bi sexual. Not that thats a bad thing, but it makes you wonder why he condemned someone of the family(by marriage) for being bi. The part i dont understand is, he left his first wife cuz he found her in bed with another woman.(maybe he couldnt please her enough,lol) But my point is,he thinks he is GOD, he is better than everyone else, the fucking bastard got away with a fucking slap on the wrist..60 days in county jail… the fucking bastard is out and free to do whatever he wants. I know he has done some bad things but i guess no one cares, he gets away with everything, he may not be a cop anymore but he still gets to do what ever he wants. Thats not right, not at all. 60 days in county and 4 years probation, to me that isnt enough, i admit this is personal to me and my feelings might be in the way but still, he should have been punished more than what he was. His family looks at him like he is GOD, cant do no wrong, well he has, a dwi, this with the drugs and the dog thing, he has had drug problems in the past and is an alcohalic,that beat up on his step daughter when she was young,with belts(the buckle end)pulled her hair, always calling her names. she at one time even went to school with the sores from the belt, told the school nurse and filed a complaint for child abuse, but the case was dropped due to lack of info. I would think the sores were enough proof but he somehow got away with that as well.Both this step daughter and steves son has problems with wetting the bed when they were young, steve would actually shove their faces in the bed and rub their faces in the wet spots. I guess their mother was too scared of steve to do anything.it went on for years.I am sure there are other things that has/had happened to them over the years. Someone needs to put a stop to this mean, cruel man.
