All Girls Are Good to Look at
“It’s impossible for women to dress in a way that won’t ignite the carnal desires of at least one of their fellow citizens. This issue was in the news again recently when a radical Islamic sheik told a Sydney public meeting that women who were raped had only themselves to blame. ‘Strapless, backless, sleeveless, nothing but satanic skirts, slit skirts, translucent blouses, miniskirts, tight jeans: all this to tease man and appeal to his carnal nature,’ railed 34-year-old Sheik Faiz Mohammed. ‘Would you put [a] sheep that you adore in the middle of hungry wolves? No… it would be devoured. It’s the same situation here. You’re putting this precious girl in front of lustful, satanic eyes of hungry wolves. What is the consequence? Catastrophic devastation, sexual harassment, perversion, promiscuity…’ It is, of course, an almighty cop-out to suggest that chaps are hungry wolves unable to control their demonic desires around scantily clad sheep. It’s also ridiculous to think there’s such a thing as lust-repellent clothing in the first place. Cruise through internet fetish sites and you’ll see women are drooled over even when wearing conventionally drab attire. At the Blouse Sexy site, the pin-up chicks are fully dressed women in conservative, button-up office shirts. There are also XXX sites devoted to women in boiler suits, women wearing supermarket-issue washing up gloves and women in surgical neck braces. Burqa sex sites are also becoming more common. These include glowing odes to wet burqa competitions and fashion tips for burqa-wearing Western cross-dressers. While Faiz Mohammed may see this as further proof that Western culture does indeed wear a set of red plastic devil horns, it’s also a wonderful reminder that sexuality does not come in a single, one-size-fits-all model. Some of us respond to the stereotypical ’sexy look’ prescribed by the mainstream media, while others are aroused by more off-beat ensembles.” —The Australian (Australia)
This editorial, written by Ms. Emma Tom, hits the nail directly on the head. There is a fetish for everything. If radical Islamic sheiks required their female followers to wear burlap bags, no doubt they would be playing right into the hands of some obscure audience of guys who fetishize chicks in burlap bags. It’s a great big beautiful world out there and, as an old jazz standard put it, everyone has sex appeal for someone. You can’t make a beautiful woman ugly — and you certainly can’t dampen a man’s lust — just by putting a different set of rags on her shoulders.
In fact, sometimes you have to wonder if the exact opposite strategy might not be the more effective one. What if you got rid of everybody’s clothes? What if you had to walk around all day looking at human bodies for what they really are? Granted, there are hot chicks and studly guys, but the bulk of human bodies are, uh, somewhat less than ideal. What’s more, even the allure of the hot chicks and studly guys pales when you see them naked all the time. It’s the familiarity breeds contempt principle. Could anything be less sexy than those cultures where the normal outfit is a thong? It makes you long for a tight pink sweater to cover up those sunburned mammaries.
Clothes make the man, the saying goes, and sometimes you have to wonder how much clothes make up sex appeal as such. What’s more exciting — to have something thrown in your lap? Or to have it hide from you, tease you, entice you, make you work? Probably the latter — but then it would be unrealistic to expect any hardline sheik to understand such a matter. Their understanding of desire probably leaves off where their devotion to Allah begins.
“If radical Islamic sheiks required their female followers to wear burlap bags, no doubt they would be playing right into the hands of some obscure audience of guys who fetishize chicks in burlap bags” — Actually, what they would be (and arguably, are) doing is playing right into the hands of a very un-obscure, very prevalent audience of guys who fetishize women who have no autonomy, and whose eternal, as well as sexual, fate is in the hands of strong, wise, manly men. I wonder whether the rape rates aren’t absurdly higher in countries where women’s sexual conduct is more highly regulated “for their own good”.
I agree with this comment by Jeremy I mean whats next if a child is wearing a sun dress and is outside and is kidnapped and raped then it would be for her own good because how she dressed its obsurd really it is.
Now, I think that the Islamic code of hijaab is absurd and evil. I also think that every person has the right to wear whatever s/he chooses to. I also don’t think that a man is excused of his actions if he rapes a scantily-dressed (or even nude) woman.
Nevertheless, there are some men (not the majority) who have poor self-control and poor morals. While they are, of course, personally responsible for their own actions morally, it’s an undeniable fact that women who dress in provocative clothing (or who tease these dangerous men, think date rape) probably wouldn’t have been raped if they had covered their intimate areas (not their whole body).
Think outside the left-wing liberal box for a moment, and look at the commonsense truth.
Mohammed – there’s no way to prove that. Women have been raped who were wearing overalls, parkas, nun’s habits, etc.; clearly modest clothing isn’t sufficient protection. *That’s* commonsense truth, because there’s evidence to back it up. You can’t show any evidence saying that “if so-and-so had been dressed differently, she wouldn’t have been raped” because there’s never any way to say what *might* have happened.
well in perspective the self proclaimed prophet of islarm did marry a 9 year old, have sex with kids and murder 1000s kinda makes you wonder dont it! (BTW thats what it says in the koraN…DONT BLAME ME I DIDNT WRITE IT)
And if u search the preachings of that old liberal ayaytollah khomeni, 9 is well old as he goes for infants!!
“A man can have sexual pleasure from a child as young as a baby sodomising the child is OK..”
Makes you wonder how these guys have time to make an A bomb there so busy rapin kids!
Frank, Frank…
“A man can have sexual pleasure from a child as young as a baby sodomising the child is OK..”
- Are these the exact words of Ayatollah Khomeini? ;)
“Makes you wonder how these guys have time to make an A bomb there so busy rapin kids!”
- As far as I, and the people sent by president Bush to investigate the matter, know; “these guys” are not building an atomic bomb at the moment. Makes me wonder where you got the idea that they where. If you know anything about the subject of Arabian A-Bombs, I’m sure there are a couple of dudes in that big old white house that might be interested too.
