Before you read any further, have a good look at the perp’s picture. With a fair complexion, light eyes, and high cheekbones, he’s not a bad-looking guy. On one hand, he does seem a bit rough around the edges, like a guy hardened by the streets. Is that a scar on his nose? On the other hand, there is also something very sensitive about his face. You could imagine him crying. Is this the face of a dog-fucker? Evidently — but then again, there is no prototypical face for someone who has sex with animals. This face is just one of thousands.

Anyway, it’s unclear whether the dog in this case died as a result of being abused. If the dog died from distemper, it’s not very likely he caught it from the perp. All the same, it was just a puppy — which makes you wonder if there is any legitimacy to the detective’s concern that the perp might transfer his unnatural lusts to his sister’s children. After all, sex crimes are usually crimes of opportunity. Often a man fucks a dog not because he’s torn with lust for dogs but because he’s torn with lust and there happens to be a dog nearby. What if you remove the dog and replace it with another potential sex object? Is the man’s lust, like a bank note, transferable?
