PervScan Rebuilt
PervScan.com has been rebuilt and modestly redesigned. If anything looks weird, try holding down the shift key and reloading the page so that your browser does not render the site using obsolete files from your local cache. And if anything still looks weird after that, please send an email describing the problem so that it can be fixed.

These are the things that have been changed.
First, in an on-going effort to fight comment spam, PervScan has implemented a new comment system. It works like this. The first time you post a comment, using a name and an email address that PervScan will not republish, your comment is submitted for moderation. If PervScan approves your comment, then in the future you will be able to post directly to the site (using the same name and email). If PervScan doesn’t approve your comment, then you’re probably a spammer or a total idiot so get the hell out of here.
Second, the PervScan Bookstore has been entirely removed. It may return at some point in an altered form, but for now it’s just been canned. There were two reasons: (a) it was exerting an unusually large load on the server, thus making other pages slow to load; (b) for reasons unclear even to us, Google kept triggering unintentional results in the script that ran the bookstore, with the consequence that innocent people with innocuous, un-perverse books were finding themselves listed on PervScan. While there was nothing wrong with this from a legal standpoint — any item in Amazon’s database can be legitimately served up via any affiliate site — PervScan felt that people had valid grounds for complaint. So for all of you who sent hate mail, PervScan has deleted the bookstore. Gone. Goodbye. You’re welcome.
Third, to replace the modest affiliate revenue lost as a result of the closed bookstore, PervScan is toying with the idea of accepting a limited amount of choice advertising. The site is absolutely not going to become a link farm for porn banners, but PervScan will be open to accepting ads from any site that ought genuinely to interest its community. More on that later.
Fourth, you can now browse date-based archives of the site. In addition, you’ll notice a Recommended Links section on every page, and also a new section listing the posts with most comments.
Fifth, PervScan has abandoned MovableType in favor of WordPress. In the blogosphere there has been a lot of resentment about how MovableType has begun charging a licensing fee, but honestly that has nothing to do with why PervScan made the switch. MovableType is decent software, served us perfectly well for almost two years, and PervScan would have been happy to pay its modest fee. However, as the site has grown in scope and as it has become a veritable magnet for spammers, MovableType simply lost its efficacy. WordPress has better comment management, offers dynamic page serving, installs easily, and is PHP-based. It’s also open source — and as writer Annalee Newitz once pointed out, open source is the technology equivalent of an orgy, so it just seemed like a perfect fit for PervScan.
Sixth, as a consequence of the software switch, PervScan decided to kiss off all the old URLs for its archives. If you’re arriving here from Google and you don’t see the page you’re looking for, try the search box. It should locate the page you’re looking for.

will the avantgo feed/pda version return?
We’re not sure yet. We’re not sure there were many people using it. We’ll try to make a decision about it by Monday.
The AvantGo feed is back up. The URL is different, so if you’re using AvantGo you may want to delete the old channel and click on the AvantGo link at the top of the page to add the new URL.
All comments become the property of PervScan. You must use an email address to post a comment. However, PervScan disallows email addresses in the text of comments.
