Convicted murderer Seylan Corduk, 40, and Kadriye Fikret Oget, 27, serving time for planting a bomb in a market, managed to drive the hole through their concrete communal cell wall, according to court records quoted by the newspapers Vatan et Hurriyet. The guilty pair each originally received one-year sentences plus a 218-million-Turkish-lira fine (128 euros, 169 dollars). You’ve all heard of a “glory hole” before. That’s a little hole, often found in public restrooms, connecting one toilet stall to another. A guy puts his penis through it and then somebody on the other side gets him off. Generally these things don’t result in pregnancies, since glory holes are usually found in men’s rooms and therefore the “somebody” on the other side of the wall is typically another guy. (If there are glory holes in men’s rooms, what do they have in women’s rooms? Glory sticks?)

Anyway, it all makes you wonder if this is the first baby ever conceived through a glory hole. Probably not — probably there have been other desperate, horny prisoners who’ve conceived. But it must not happen very often. And it certainly does make you wonder what is going to be done with the poor little baby. On one hand, you’d like to give every set of parents a chance at raising their child. On the other hand, prison is obviously not an ideal environment for raising kids. What are they going to do — suspend a bassinet between their jail cells?
