Pedo Can’t Be Locked Up
“A one-legged paedophile facing sentences totalling 58 years was free last night — because a cell could not be found for him. Wheelchair-bound Anthony James was allowed home from court when Armley nick in Leeds said it could not deal with his disability… James, 45, was convicted two months ago of 12 counts of indecent assault and one of indecency with a child. His trial at Leeds Crown Court heard he began abusing girls aged between five and ten in the 1970s. He even continued after he lost his right leg crashing a stolen car. Sickeningly, he used his disability to get sympathy from youngsters he then went on to abuse. Two of his victims, who have waived their right to stay anonymous, slammed the mix-up. Angie Broadhead, now 28, said: ‘He is dirty and disgusting. He is not human — and he shouldn’t be on this Earth. ‘He destroyed our lives. It’s only going through the court case that has helped me to start to get over it.’ Sister Kath, now a 23-year-old mum of two, said: ‘He is an evil monster and I hate him. ‘I just wish this was America and he was being executed rather than facing jail. He said if I told my mum what he was doing to me she would get hurt.’” —The Sun (UK)

Here’s a picture of the one-legged pedophile in his wheelchair. Here’s a picture of his two (now adult) victims. In the accompanying article, the two sisters describe how he abused them. So far as abuse stories are concerned, it’s pretty run-of-the-mill stuff, though naturally this does not lessen the crime nor the impact on the two women.
Indeed, you can’t help but notice the vituperative comments by the two victims. Both were outraged that the perp, thanks to his disaibility, was temporarily absolved from going to prison. In a way this is ironic, since to be imprisoned is to be deprived of freedom and movement, and somebody in a wheelchair is already to some extent deprived of these. It makes you wonder if prison is a less harrowing experience for a person with disabilities. After all, it’s not like he has to give up tennis.
Maybe it’s their pain speaking, but the victims seem to think that prison isn’t adequate punishment. They wish he would be put to death. Maybe they even dream of turning the guy over to somebody like the vicious thug who pushed a wheelchair-bound guy into the parking lot behind a Woolworths and raped him. That would have the virtue of submitting the perp to the eye-for-an-eye principle.
