Father Alexander Bede Walsh was in his religious robes and on his way to a church conference when he was spotted reading a child sex ‘fantasy story’ on a laptop computer. A passenger on the Oxford to Manchester train raised the alarm and 143 indecent images were later found on his laptop. Here is another nominee for the Idiot Pedophile of the Year award. Really, how dumb do you have to be to jeopardize your freedom, your standing in the local community, your job, your freakin’ life, just to peruse some child pornography? It’s entirely incomprehensible. A train is obviously a public place. Child pornography is not only illegal, it’s wildly polemical, a “hot button” topic. And it’s not like Father Walsh was going to jerk off on the train. So what’s the point of risking everything to noodle around with the kiddie porn on your laptop? Can’t you at least wait until you get back to the church? Jesus!

To be fair, it’s unclear whether Father Walsh was looking at kiddie porn pictures or reading a kiddie porn story. The BBC claimed he was looking at indecent images, while other papers claimed he was merely reading a story. It would be suicidal stupidity to look at such pictures in public, but you could imagine somebody thinking he could probably get away with reading a text-only story. After all, he was used to discoursing in public about a big powerful being forcing himself on little Virgin Mary without her consent. Maybe he was just trying to get in God’s mind, trying to understand why God chose a virgin and not a woman of more experience… Was God, he might have wondered, a pedophile? And if so, would it not be right to emulate Him in His Depravity?
