There have been an entire series of stories about this sensational trial going on in Amsterdam. In essence, a “pornographic gang” (as one paper dubbed the perps) kidnapped three immigrants and raped them in the most humiliating ways. Though the charge that the three women were to be killed for a snuff film has yet to be proven, apparently the women were indeed forced to have sex with animals — two Rottweiler dogs, one story specified. And apparently all of this was taped for pornographic posterity.

However regrettable it may be that this porn-gang exploited these poor women, somehow it comes as no surprise. On one hand, the Netherlands has long been tolerant of weird sex fetishes — bestiality included. Just recently there was an outcry when a man was caught in flagrante delicto having sex with a horse in the city of Utrecht, and yet prosecutors couldn’t charge him. In the Netherlands there is no law against bestiality unless you hurt the animal, though that may soon change.

On the other hand, aside from Dutch tolerance for kinky behavior, the explosion of internet pornography has obviously created a market for sick porn and has also served to make it somewhat less taboo. The cornucopia of bestiality available online can’t help but accustom people to it. The “normal” or “average” person will develop a hardness to imagery that would have made his grandparents puke on their dinner plates. Conversely, some people will develop a taste for it and end up either creating bestiality porn or creating a market for it. Consequently, it’s hard not to think that this is the sort of story you’ll be seeing a lot of in the near future. Because if there is demand — even sick demand — then there will also be squalid entrepreneurs who rise up to provide the sick supply.
