Dog Digs Up Photos of Child Sex Abuse
“Evidence of a heinous crime might have lain buried forever if not for canine habits… The current case against [Jack Sobonya] emerged in September, when a bloodhound dug up the yard behind Sobonya’s former home. The dog gave his owner, who had been living in the home for just a few months, a number of dirt-caked Polaroid photos and two videotapes, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Detective Billy Hester. He said the photos show a young girl in ’sexually explicit positions. The videos are of Sobonya engaging in sex acts with her.’ The photos and videos support accusations which the girl’s mother made against him around 1993, Detective Hester said. That was also when he was charged with molesting the other 3-year-old. But no charges were brought against him. The girl, believed to be the subject of the photos and videotapes, died in a car crash last year at age 14, the police said.” — The Electric New Paper (Singapore)
It’s hard not to read this story without imagining the police seizing on this idea. “Hey, we have drug-sniffing dogs. Maybe we can train dogs to dig up kiddie porn too!” But obviously it would be no easy task to train dogs to hunt for child pornography. The dog in this story just happened to dig the stuff up. He wasn’t looking for it. Unlike drugs, child pornography does not have any unique odor. What would they train the dog to look for — some olfactory combination of photographic pigment and seminal fluid?
The more fascinating question is not about the dog but about the perp. It’s common knowledge that criminals — and apparently pedophiles in particular — like to keep “souvenirs” from their crimes. Many child abusers photograph their own crimes, in spite of the obvious risk of providing evidence against themselves. But if you have such evidence and, in an effort to safeguard it, you go so far as to bury it, what’s the point of keeping it at all? It’s not like you can dig it up and look at it every night before you go to bed. Why not just burn it? Especially when, as in this case, you’re already in trouble for molesting a three-year-old? And especially when the victim herself is dead? There’s nobody left to accuse you, and what do you do? Incriminate yourself?

I actually knew this guy and am so shocked by what I found today and then further shocked to discover the case was thrown out because the victim is dead. What kind of shit is that? He was a neighbor on the beach and no one had a clue that he was more than a blues musician. I’m sickened by this news report:

I am actually the first little 3 year old girl this guy was convicted of molesting. I’m 16 years old now, and to this day, that man effects my life because of what he’s done. Not only because of what he’s done to me, but what he’s done with other little girls too. The thought of this man sickens me.
Don’t worry Abra, I know “someone” who works at Atascadero State Hosptial (ASH) and this shitbag Sobonya is housed there. Sobonya is a total asshole, an entitled prick who thinks he knows more than the psychiatrists and I expect he’ll be stuck there for a long time until he leaves… hopefully feet first.
Unfortunately he’s a PC2962 Mentally Disordered Offender (MDO) and not a WIC6600 Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) as he would be had his other victim lived long enough to testify against his sorry ass.
Rest assured he is in a maximum security forensic psych hospital with tall fences topped with razor wire. You can sleep well at night knowing he ain’t going anywhere for a long, long time.
