Diet Pills Increase Chance of Lesbian Child
“Taking pills for slimming and thyroid problems during pregnancy may increase the possibility of bearing lesbian daughters, a study has revealed. Researchers studied thousands of pregnant women to study the effect of prescription drugs on their babies and discovered that the drug thyroxine, used to treat thyroid deficiency, and amphetamine-based slimming pills appear to influence homosexuality among female children. The results show sexual orientation is affected by prenatal rather than social factors, with mothers of homosexual girls proving eight times more likely to have taken those pills — most noticeably with daughters whose mothers took them during their first three months of pregnancy… [The study] also revealed that some drugs can have the opposite effect — mothers of heterosexual males were 70% more likely to have taken pills to combat nausea than those of gay men.” —TimesOnline.com (UK)

It would seem obvious that any prospective parent would want to know how prescription drugs might influence her pregnancy and, more importantly, her baby. And when it’s a matter of ascertaining whether a drug causes a birth defect, it’s obviously a good thing to know. But when it’s a matter of a drug causing sexual orientation, it’s something else altogether. Does that mean that homosexuality could be classified as a birth defect? Is lesbianism tantamount to cerebral palsy or a hair lip? No doubt the very thought assaults liberal senses, and yet — what if it is a birth defect? What then? Do you correct for it? Do you put warning labels on diet pills: “Consumption during pregnancy may cause lesbianism in children…”
Or to look at it the other way, might some parents decide — for whatever reasons — that they want lesbian daughters and therefore stock up on diet pills during pregnancy? It’s a shocking question when you ask it that way, when you ask if parents might want to create deliberately homosexual children. But given that the study also suggests that diet pills might reinforce heterosexuality in male children, you can easily imagine the opposite — nervous dads slipping amphetamines into their wives’ drinks so that they have macho boys…
Ahh, I’ve heard a lot about the prenatal creation of sexuality, and it makes sense. I’m curious what it is exactly in amphetamines that causes a brain to be attracted to females.
I suspect this is a matter of hormonal/pheremone receptors linked to pleasure generators in the brain and other systems. Input+pleasure=preference(?)
woow… i just came across this article while doing research for a nature/nurture paper on homosexuality, i consider myself to be a lesbian and this article really got my attention because i recently found my mother had taken diet pills for many years before i was born…specifically dexedrine, amphedemine based diet pills. I know this is just one case but it was shocking for me to see how much this article lined up with my story… coincidence??
but what is exactly in amphedemine that causes this reaction in females? i mean, i’m a lesbian but my mom never took any diet pills..it was just from social factors…
