Women Raped ‘Long Distance’
“Limpopo women are claiming they’re being raped ‘long distance’. The women in Edinburgh village near Bushbuckridge say their attackers are using muti called Mtshotshaphansi that allows men to rape the women without being physically present. ‘I don’t sleep at night because I keep on feeling as if a man is having sex with me, causing me to reach a climax and I become very tired,’ Hleziphi Ngwenya told a public meeting at the kraal of local induna Mngoni Malamule. When her fellow villagers hooted with laughter, she said. ‘It may seem funny, but I experienced the problem at least once a week…’ A senior researcher at the Centre For Health Policy at Wits University, Marion Stevens, said she had also heard of Mtshotshaphansi, but that it was possible the women were having vivid sexual dreams.” —News24.com (South Africa)
When you live in the hustle and bustle of western society, it’s easy to forget just how backward some people are. Basically these women are mistaking wet dreams for supernatural events. No other explanation is possible. If men could rape women without being physically present — if they could truly get “action at a distance,” to appropriate a term from physics — they would have evolved and perfected the technique by now. Men wouldn’t bother to get out of bed in the mornings, because they’d just lie there radiating rape vibes in the direction of Hollywood. Nicole Kidman would be getting sodomized sixty thousand times a day. And you shudder to think what outrages would be perpetrated on the Olsen Twins.
To make matters even worse, this superstition is not a quaint local custom. Muti is a generic term for South African medicine, but once you mix up muti with sex you get all kinds of horrors — not just remote-control rapes but genital mutilations and even murders.
