Motive is everything, as they say, and in this case it’s both easy and difficult to imagine what the perp’s motive was. On one hand, you can plainly see that his motive was lust, or at least a depraved and insistent form of it. On the other hand, what made him choose his victim? Why her? Why this particular lady? Did he harbor necrophilious impulses that made him find her terminal illness appealing? Was he a latent gerontophile who was attracted to old ladies? The article mentions that he knew the victim — so had he long harbored a crush that he wanted to consummate before the victim shuffled off this mortal coil? Or did he choose her just because she was incapable of resisting, telling, or apparently even realizing that she was being raped? Did he do it only because he thought he’d get away with it? But then, if that was the case, it’s a little strange to rape someone you don’t find particularly attractive. Especially when you factor in the risk of getting caught, is screwing a paralyzed, unconscious woman that much better than jerking off?
