There are two obvious lessons to be learned from the case of the stinking rapist. First is that the stepmother erred by allowing a previous rape to be “amicably resolved.” (And just how does that work anyway? “I know I just raped your ass, but let’s kiss and make up.” It transforms the process of forgiveness into a prolongation of the rape.) If the stepmother had reported the prior rape, perhaps the smelly rapist might not have been bold enough to force himself on another woman.

Then again, sex criminals tend to be recidivists, so perhaps the man might have tried to rape Madam Kwao anyway. And in that case, he should have learned the second lesson — which is that even rapists need to practice basic bodily hygiene. Have a little consideration for your victim, for Christ’s sake. It’s repellent enough to get stupped without giving consent. At least take some of the edge off your victim’s angst by treating every rape as though it were a first date. Take a shower. Wash your hair. Brush your teeth. Shave. Put on some deodorant. Cleanliness is next to godliness, even if sex is dirty and you’re doing something demonic.
