Hardee’s is the worst resturant known to man. You mainly find them on lonely interstate highway rest stops where desparate travelers have no other choice of nourishment. Their french fries are fried pieces of molten grease fused together. Nobody willfully chooses to eat there. You wind up eating there. This is how they eke out their bleak existance.

Anything that happens to Hardee’s employees is fair game.

I agree that the perv who did the calling should be punished- and the manager who actually fell for it should be punished to. But seriously, a 19-year-old girl doesn’t have the life experience to say, “You know, this is just a sucky fast-food job, I should tell this guy to go shove himself up an elephant’s rectum.” 19-year-old kids- boys as well as girls- are preyed upon by people who understand that they don’t have enough life experience to know when to tell people to fuck off. I doubt she was ’secretly excited’ at the turn of events that ended up with an authority figure insisting she take her clothes off and do naked aerobics. (And if the call purported to be from the police, there are two authority figures involved. What teenage kid doesn’t secretly fear the police?)

Don’t blame the kid, dude. Blame the sickos.

As a person younger than 19, it’s bullshit to say that a 19 year old can’t figure out that its a stupid idea. Even the lesser of my peers has the “life experience” to tell that something is a bit wrong with that situation; with most people, you can guess it by age 13. Either she had some other reason for complying, or she is just really, really stupid.

And, by the way, Hardee’s has really good burgers now. Way better than any other fast food place, anyway.

I like the idea a 19 year old is a kid. Next we will be saying 30 year olds are too immature to make a judgement.

Folks in ancient times women became adutls at 12 and men at 14. These were immature adults who needed to supervision of their parents and a mentor. They could not get married without parental permission and could not sign contracts without co-singing by both mentor and parents.

They could and were required to sit in Council but could not vote or speak.

Now we are just oo busy for them, so we call them children.

I read this same(more complete) story in a magazine and they were actually saying how the girl was forced by the manager and I think 1 or 2 other male employees to stay in the closet and do this and basically forced her to do it not that she CHOSE to but maybe this was another case because it did mention there were several and either way the manager should definately be punished more than the person making the phone call if someone walks up to you and says go and shoot everyone in the post office does that make them partly responsible? Forced? Forced how? It is not stated anywhere that she had her clothing removed forcibly, simply that the caller took advantage of her nieve state and took advantage of the popular misconception concerning Law Enforcement Officer authority. She did have a choice, as is enumerated by the 4th amendment. Unfortunately, it is the sad state of affairs that we as a nation are no longer clearly taught our rights at a young age and no longer cling desperately to our rights. I will agree that once they had her clothing and car keys, she was fairly well confined by her own modesty. However, before this point, the clear problem is the lack of understanding that we as United States Citizens no longer understand our rights. The manager did not understand that we do not live in a police state and the police have no more right to strip search a person without a warrent or porbable cause as I do. She did not understand her right to be free from unreasonable searches, as the 4th amendment states, nor her right to legal council and a fair hearing in all criminal cases. This is a failure of our society to understand the foundation upon which it is built. This failure is due to the fact that our rights are being eroded as our country ages and accumulates bureaucracy. In order to avoid falling prey to these kinds of situations (depending on the article you read, this crime is part of a one man crime spree in which anywhere from 13 to 60 of these incidents have taken place) I would recommend reading and studying the US Constitution and all amendments until you are satisfied that you understand it fully. That would be a lovely place to start. In all 13 of these cases reported on in one article, the managers involved were indicted on charges and 7 were convicted, regardless of the fact that they were hoodwinked. Ignorance is no excuse for immoral and illegal behavior.

Yes, “forced” — Force can be exerted in many ways; physical threats are but one means to coerce a certain behavior from a person.

You can be tricked, you can be seduced, smooth-talked. It’s why most states allow you three days to change your mind about contracts you sign after talking to a door-to-door salesman. This is what happened to that girl.

In this case, her manager called her in and, claiming to be on the phone with a policeman who suspected her of a crime, ordered her to comply with a series of requests, starting with some questions then on to incrementally more intrusive searches that very quickly included commands to remove her clothing.

By the time she was handing over her underwear to her boss, a 40-something year-old woman, it didn’t necessarily seem so outlandish to her. She had every reason to believe these orders were being transmitted to her boss by the police, who suspected her of a crime. She was at work, after all, surrounded by familiar and trusted faces.
The door to the tiny office was shut but just beyond it was an extremely public place!

What would be her clue that she was being readied for a sexual assault?

All the information available to her told her obeying the orders, while embarrassing and unpleasant, were ultimately a lot less so than the alternative: doing all this and more in a police station along with being arrested and jailed.

You recognize the fact that force can be exerted in very subtle ways when you point out how she could be restrained by her own modesty once her car keys and clothing were taken away.

And it’s worth pointing out that her keys as well as her cell phone were taken away from her very early in the ordeal. Her clothes were put directly in a plastic bag and taken away by the manager.

Once she agreed to go along with the first order, the next one became much harder to refuse and so on. I’m afraid too many of us would have been just a quickly caught in that kind of trap.

HOWEVER — I have to agree with you that most Americans are shockingly and sadly ignorant of their most basic rights. Proof of that is the sickening ease with which this administration has been gutting our rights without any resistance from the people.
