Ball in the Family
“Blount County sheriff’s officials say incest happens more often than we would like to think. At the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, they charge people with incest or other forms of child sexual molestation every couple of weeks. But they say this case is particularly disturbing. ‘It’s disgusting to think a mother and stepfather would treat these kids the way they’ve been treated and compelled to do things that just aren’t normal,’ says Chief Deputy Ron Dunn. Jeffrey Williams, 39, and Lei Williams, 36, are charged with incest. Authorities say after a domestic violence call to the couple’s Greenback home, the woman’s two daughters — both of whom are under the age of 16 — told deputies about the alleged sexual incidents. ‘To put it in their words, it was a family party, and there were drugs offered in exchange for sex,’ Dunn says. Authorities say the girls, who had become addicted to cocaine, were providing sexual favors to their stepfather and were being given the drug as a reward. Deputies say the girls’ mother participated in sexual activities with all of them.” — WVLT (US)
Blount County is in that Eastern wedge of Tennessee near the Appalachian Trail. This is pretty much the place referred to when you hear all those old hillbilly jokes, like: Where do hillbilly men go to pick up women? Family reunions. Did you hear about the hillbilly couple who got a divorce? On their way out of court, the man turned to his ex-wife and asked: Does this mean we’re not brother and sister anymore? No wonder the sheriff’s office claims that incest happens more often than people would like to think.
Still, there is something especially sordid about this story. The man and wife were already facing unrelated charges for prostitution. Now they get the wife’s daughters addicted to cocaine so they can oblige the girls to offer up sexual favors in exchange for the drugs. Jesus. It’s one thing to be perverse — but isn’t it quite another to be contemptible?
Admittedly it’s a complicated relationship, and perversions often lead people into all kinds of lamentable behavior. What you have to wonder, then, is whether it is possible to be simultaneously perverse and yet honorable. Can you indulge in sexual eccentricities without descending into the despicable? Or does the one always entail the other?
Can you indulge in sexual eccentricities without descending into the despicable? Or does the one always entail the other?
One person’s despicability is another person’s eccentricity.
And there is an inclination among many to make eccentricities illegal.
I am after all normal, he she it is eccentric, they are despicable.
True enough, hludens. And yet, to play the Devil’s advocate, you have to wonder about the relativism implied by your position. It’s liberating to say that God is dead, nothing is true, everything is permitted — but does anyone really function according to a completely amoral position such as that? Everyone has their limits, and it goes without saying that some people’s limits will be different than other people’s limits. But — and this is really the crux of the question — is there ever a sexual behavior that touches on the absolute? Could a sexual behavior ever be intrinsically wrong? Is there a sexual limit?
Granted, a relativist will say “wrong according to whom?” — and yet, if you kill the relativist’s grandmother to have anal sex with the cadaver, odds are the relativist will have a moral reaction. He may well be able to provide a rational (as opposed to an irrational or a religious) basis for his reaction. Maybe he could deduce the impropriety of necrophilia from Kant’s categorical imperative. But all the same — whether it’s rational or not — it’s still a moral reaction.
This is not to say that necrophilia is the sexual absolute, or that there is a kind of a priori limit on some sorts of sexual activity. But it is to say that if you’re interested in perversity, you’re interested in the larger question of ethical behavior, since “perversity” is a meaningless concept where there are no norms. Granted, you could say that the norms don’t have to be moral ones — for example, you could redefine perversity in quantitative terms, such that perversity is simply a rare behavior and the norm is a common one. But then pedophilia, which is entirely common, would no longer be perverse, and sex in marriage, which is rare, would be a perversion. :-)
theres nothing wrong with incest. everybody does it but only few admit it. girls are routinely into sex with fathers brothers and uncles from when theyre 10 or 11. mothers know that cos theyve done it themselves when they were that age. no big deal. Only dried up sex-starved people who want to but are not attractive to their family menfolk make a big noise about it. we have lotsof happy times with our lil girls at home
There is no doubt incest is a reality in this world of ours, but it is not as common as we are led to believe on sites such as these. Through the years I have witnessed it both abroad and in the US, and it is normally fathers, with daughters, and son’s with sisters in my experience.
this is a post I have cut and pasted from another part of this website - little bits may not relate to the posts on here, but it mainly does relate to them:
TO ALL THE PEOPLE SAYING UNDERAGE INCEST IS OK:
You forget one thing. Consent. A girl (or boy) who has not reached the level of maturity necessary to make a massive life-changing decision (ie, losing virginity) is not able to properly consent, because they can not fully understand what they are consenting to, and the implications of that consent (whether the sex is with an adult male or adult female or both)
Would a bank loan money to a young child who definitely has the means to pay it back? No. Why? Because the CHILD is not mature enough to make such a decision - the most likely outcome is that money will not be paid back. This type of thinking applies to other decisions - such as sexual acts.
Whether the child “agrees” or not is irrelevant, because they do not fully understand what they are agreeing to. Just like a child can’t “agree” to kill someone, because they do not fully understand. Why do children pick up knives? Because they do not fully understand that they are dangerous. Children do not fully understand what is involved in a sexual act (at the time of the act, or later) and even if they “consent” (which of course is NOT valid consent), they may become confused about it later in life, wondering whether it was OK or actually not OK
It is an abuse of power. A person in a position of power (such as a parent) should never put someone they have power over in a position where that person may end up feeling abused later.

Incidentally, the language I have seen used on here by people supporting adult-child sexual relations is very similar to language I have seen used by people who have eventually confessed to me that they not only want to have sex with their kids, they would be happy to rape them as well.
And just because something happens, it doesn’t mean it’s right
Are all the bombings right because they happen anyway?
Right on, Sum Per Sun– I agree with you completely.
The matters of maturity and the ability to consent are so important.
Also the fact that losing one’s virginity is a life-changing experience for better or worse–no one should have this experience forced on them. (Though I’m sure some people will have a problem with my use of the word “forced”
I firmly believe that a child isn’t mature enough to truly consent to sex–I know from remembrances of the way my mind worked when I was a child, and from talking to many others about this.
Take Care.
