Stephen King, Pedophile

“This isİthe face of Stephen King, a paedophile who posed as an expert in child pornography while systematically sexually abusing three young girls. King, 54, lectured at criminal justice conferences for the Met, the Crown Prosecution Service and the Probation Service as a self-professed expert on child protection issues. But unbeknown to child protection experts, he had been convicted under a pseudonym in 1989 of gross indecency with a number of children and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court heard on Tuesday he was finally caught by chance when he was investigated for benefit fraud… As [police] searched for financial documents an officer noticed a stack of child pornography next to his home computer. Prosecutor Peter Zinner told the court a detailed search of the address and a nearby lock-up uncovered ‘video, photo and hand-written evidence of years of systematic sexual abuse of underage girls’. King was found to have set up a photographic studio in his bedroom with a blacked out window to document ‘years of systematic abuse’ of three girls over a four-year period.” — icSouthlondon (UK)

No, it’s not that Stephen King, though if you look at the perp’s picture he does bear a certain family resemblance to the writer. Also like the famous scribe, he seems to have had a compulsion to write, maintaining a four-year diary documenting his systematic abuse of three girls. And certainly everything he wrote is horrific — but the resemblance to Stephen King the writer ends there, since presumably the latter’s work is all fiction, whereas the scribblings of Stephen King the pedophile are all true.

In one of the diaries, Mr. King apparently brags about how he “got away with it” when suspected of child abuse on a former occasion. Apparently he was operating on the Purloined Letter principle: the best place to hide is in plain sight. What better cover story for a pedophile than to become an expert in child pornography? (Then again, especially in this internet age, most pedophiles are probably de facto experts in kiddie porn.) It makes you wonder about all the other experts and law-enforcement officials who work in this area. Might a significant percentage of them really be depraved individuals whose “expertise” results from private fetishes? Years ago there was a story in the news about how a bunch of child pornography submitted as evidence in a trial was “lost” by the end of the proceedings. When a cynic reads something like that, he’s inclined just to nod his head and say, “Yup, makes perfect sense…”

That’s rather disturbing, especially the last part. Who exactly can people trust?
