The deputy manager at Asahi Shimbun’s Kyushu editorial center was arrested on March 1 shortly after noon after a schoolgirl complained to the driver that he exposed himself. The driver reported the matter to police. While sometimes you hear about people who harbor a twisted lust for amputees — it’s called apotemnophilia — you don’t hear too much about amputees who experience the same depraved desires as the rest of horny old humanity. Evidently this Japanese editor didn’t know how to censor himself, since even his co-workers attest that he often dropped his drawers to fuss with his leg. It may well be that the leg caused him some discomfort, and yet at the same time that doesn’t give him the license to expose himself in public. There are always bathrooms if he really needed to adjust his prosthetic. Or it must also have been possible to adjust it by hoisting a trouser leg, rather than pulling down his pants and accidentally baring his genitals as well.

In short, it’s hard not to believe that the guy is using his infirmity as an excuse for his exhibitionism — especially since his leg seems to have bothered him most when there were little Japanese schoolgirls around. How convenient. Certainly it was not his prosthetic but rather his third leg that was in need of a little relief…

UPDATE: 01 February 2005. “The Fukuoka District Court on Monday acquitted a man with an artificial leg of exposing his private parts to a schoolgirl on a bus. ‘There is a possibility that an eyewitness mistook the defendant adjusting his artificial leg for exposing his genitals,’ Presiding Judge Toshiyuki Tani said as he cleared the defendant of his charges. The incident occurred in March last year on a bus in Fukuoka. The 44-year-old defendant sat on a seat in the back part of the vehicle.
