Honk Honk
“A bizarre story out of Fort Dodge, where a paramedic was fired and denied benefits after allegedly handling a corpse inappropriately. Scott Kirhart of Manson worked for Trinity Regional Medical Center. According to state records, he was fired after sticking his fingers in the mouth of a dead person which he was transporting to the morgue. A security officer who was present exhibited a ’strong reaction,’ according to state records. As a result, Kirkhart thrust his fingers into the dead person’s nostrils. He later grabbed the dead person’s breast and said ‘honk, honk.’” — Whotv.com (US)

You have to laugh at a story like this. While nobody likes to think of a loved one being the butt of stupid corpse-handler jokes, at the same time you have to give some leeway to the various people whose job it is to handle dead bodies. No doubt it is sick, lugubrious work, and the best means to combat the depressing effects of dealing with the dead is to keep a lively sense of humor. As long as the dead bodies aren’t being violated or mutilated in any real way, where’s the harm?
Probably a lot of this kind of black humor goes on anyway. It’s a commonplace that medical students in dissection labs like to play practical jokes on each other — drop severed ears out of lab windows and that kind of thing. Morticians must also have their jokes, squirt-gun wars with embalming fluids. Probably paramedics have their fun too, but normally you don’t hear about it. In this case, it sounds like the paramedic just chose the wrong person to tease, a security officer. You know how certain types of cops and security personnel are. They need to assert their authority. You can’t expect them just to sit back and take it when you grab a dead tit and go, “Honk honk.”
lots of this kind of humor in the series 6 feet under
not quite gross enough to be called necrophilic, no morgueasms, as I recall
Nothing wrong with a bit o black humor!
Heard a story about a couple of EMTs called to a place where someone had died. Lots of funny things happen to corpses. Anyway, the deceased let out this massive fart (caused by gases emitted by decomposition of flesh), and one of them says, “That was his soul leaving his body.” The other one thought it was amusing enough to post about, at least.
I think people sometimes find black humor the most funny, because death happens to everyone at some time, and humor helps take the edge off our feelings about the inevitable (whatever those feelings happen to be).
I don’t see what the big deal is try dealing with death on a daily basis you have to laugh sometimes I mean really what does a $6 an hour security gaurd know about anything any way
its not like he’s a real cop or anything he was just a prick that got picked on in high school
Funny how people are so worried about what happens to the dead, but most of them couldn’t give a flying fuck what happens to the living.
