Mister or Miss Universe?
“A woman who used to be a man has been given the official go-ahead to take part in China’s Miss Universe beauty contest… It took just a day for contest organisers at the Miss Universe-China headquarters in New York to decide that Miss Chen Lili, 24, who underwent a sex-change operation, could enter the pageant. Miss Chen, who works as a fashion model in Sichuan province, was elated on hearing the news late on Sunday… Born Chen Yongjun, the leggy Sichuan native underwent surgery to become a woman last November.” — Straits Times (UK)
In a way it seems like stacking the deck to allow a transsexual to enter a beauty contest for women. Especially today when height, straight hips, and long legs are considered attractive, a former man would seem to have the edge over his naturally female competitors. If they won’t allow steroids in baseball, why allow testosterone in a beauty pageant?
To be fair, maybe the thing to do is to fling open the gates. Rather than have beauty contests be the exclusive preserve of women and their simulacra, you could stage contests that are essentially beauty free-for-alls. They could be the aesthetic equivalent of those free-style fights that pit boxers against sumo wrestlers, black belts against street fighters, and so on. You could pit women against men, pre-ops against post-ops, dykes against queens, trannies against he-men, people against animals, robots against clones. Rather than Miss Universe you could call the contest Universal Beauty or maybe just Hot Thing.

I thought that male to female sex change reduced the production of testosterone. (Don’t gender-specific females also produce testosterone, just not as much as males?) (I don’t know what gender-specific means, I was trying to say “natural women”, but I’m a smutsurfer, Jim, not an endocrinologist))
Okay, I notice a certain ingrained prejudice or perhaps its ignorance. “A woman who used to be a man” is a bit harsh and rude. Male-yes, man no. What’s the difference? Socialization, habits, worldview, etc….and also a three year old is male, but isn’t a man because you wouldn’t give the kid liquor or allow someone to have sex with him. As a TS, I can honestly say I was never a MAN. Never felt like one, thought like one, processed info as one. You fail to realize that there are persons who are born female and suffer tremendous birth defects, i.e. a penis. The information that goes to the brain telling you what sex you are is ingrained before genitalia is developed. Of course this is hard for you to understand as someone who hasn’t experienced it, and as a three year old, I knew I would one day grow up into a woman, so being a man was never part of my development.
Also, what gives you the impression that a transsexual woman isn’t going to be hippy and that a genetic female isn’t going to be rail thin straight up and down. All persons born male aren’t necessarily thin nor are they tall and having long legs is one thing, and attractive feminine long legs is another. With all of these boney ass girls out here, it seems that a ts has no advantage of any sort; particularly post op because no longer having the lean muscle mass of a testosterone producing male, one tends to gain wait much easier and find getting it off damn near impossible unless you’re fortunate to be Lindsay Lohan who just happens to have an amazing trainer who can help you lose your breast throught weight reduction and then through a carefully planned diet and more training, help you put them back on. (Said with tongue in cheek)
I am agrre that one person who have got sex change should compete in pageants for the same gender. Here in USA we have Miss Gay US of A, Miss continental and Queen of the Universe pageants for drag queens and women who used to be a men. It is not a surprise for me if that Chen Lily is so beutiful I believe so, the pageant queen of the universe most of the contestants are Asian is held in Los Angeles every year, actually this weekend is the 2005 annual pageant.
more information about this pageant send a e-mail to Karina Samala at EMAIL ADDRESS DELETED. (PROVIDE URL INSTEAD.)
