Sex Enhances Athletic Performance in Women
“Sex has been described as a performance-enhancing device capable of attaining superlative feats in sporting competitions. This revelation was made yesterday at the on going Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) Sports Aid Programme (SAP) Course, by a physiotherapist, Dr. Oladapo Odunuga. Odunuga […] disclosed that it is an established fact that some sports women do have sex two hours before competitions to enhance their performances… He went further to justify this by citing the example of a Nigerian athlete of the ’70s, who used to attend competitions with her boy friend so that she could be aided to perform. He also made mention of the some sports women, like the late American sprint star Flo Jo who would be pregnant few months to a major international competition, only to abort it before so that hormones which would have been secreted will serve as performance enhancing aid for her.” — AllAfrica.com (Africa)
It is not clear how reliable this physiotherapist and his data are. His evidence seems entirely anecdotal, and the story about Flo Jo deliberately undergoing abortions prior to tournaments sounds pretty far-fetched (not to mention disturbing, if true). On the other hand, it is certainly believable that sex might enhance athletic performance, whether for psychological or physiological reasons.
Given how competitive professional sports is, you can easily imagine the ramifications if indeed sex could enhance performance. Athletes would start traveling with their own coterie of “escorts,” hookers, gigolos. Locker rooms would be overrun with last-minute orgies. Big stars such as Venus and Serena Williams — to take just the most famous female athletes as example — would be out there on the tennis court with semen soaking their tennis whites. And in post-game interviews, winners would no longer credit their trainers or coaches, but rather their groupies and lovers.
I’m thinking about my high school’s girls basketball team, and remembering that most, if not all, of the varsity players were notable sluts.
Coincidence? Well, I thought so until now…
