When you read these stories in the news, they’re kind of flat and two-dimensional, like a comic book. You get the action but none of the psychology that really brings a story to life. Imagine — what were these people thinking and feeling? The ex-girfriend must have felt shock and disgust. Had the boyfriend been going from her to the dog and back? Had a penis she’d held in her mouth also been in Sparkles’ ass? And the perp, since men tend to be weirdly obtuse in these situations, was probably thinking to himself, “Man, if I’d drowned the dumb dog in the bathtub, I wouldn’t get arrested. What’s the big stinking deal?” And the child, who was probably more of a victim than the dog, must have been traumatized. What young girl on the verge of puberty wants to conceive of sex as a realm where mom’s boyfriend does something nasty to the backside of Sparkles?
