The typical perversion story tends to be pretty one-dimensional. It’s pervert against the law, bad guy against good guy. And in the story the good guy, the law, usually wins — because if the bad guy wins, that means the story never makes the news. Perverts only win by remaining anonymous, hidden, beyond the law, where they can continue to perpetrate their nefarious deeds.
It gets to be pretty ho-hum after a while, so it’s especially fascinating to see a story that breaks with the formula. This tale of robbery and pedophilia pits bad guy against bad guy — burglar against child molestor. It obliges you to sympathize with the burglar and experience the incredible moral dilemma that he found himself in. After all, what are your options when you find yourself in such a situation? You could beat up the child molestor. That gives you revenge on the guy who molested your sister, but it also exposes you to a worse prison sentence if you get caught. You could take all the nude pictures the child molestor had and blackmail him — but there’s not much revenge in that, and somehow it makes you complicit in the molestation of your own sister. You’re using her pain for your gain. You could destroy the photos, beat a retreat from the apartment, and then take pains to protect your sister from the child molestor — but that leaves him on the loose to prey on other children. (He was, incidentally, a registered sex offender.) Or you could do what the burglar did — turn yourself into the police. It seems like the right thing to do, but doing the right thing is hard when it also means facing a prison sentence for breaking and entering.
That is precisely what makes the story so compelling. It shows a bad guy doing a good thing. It’s reminiscent of the film Taxi Driver, where the protagonist sets out to be a political assassin but ends up saving a girl from the clutches of child prostitution. The film leaves you with a difficult moral question. Is the guy bad if he intended to do something bad? Or is the guy good because he ended up doing something good? Which counts more — intentions or actions? It’s an old debate in philosophy, and yet Taxi Driver and now this burglary story present it in a new way. What do you make of a guy who sets out to be a robber but ends up saving the neighborhood kids from a child molestor? Is he a hero or an anti-hero?
Those damn perverts should be castrated and killed.
It’s also possible that the burglar actually took the pictures of his own sisiter and then reported finding them there to get revenge. Yeah it does sound far-fetched but this whole story is already far-fetched.

The burglar’s got no business to interfere his private affairs. He should have done his job & left. A burglar would never go to the police. He would have asked for money from the guy in exchange for the photos. And thus wouldn’t need to break into anybody’s house anymore.
