“Donald Luis Cooper pleaded guilty in a San Bernardino court to unlawfully handling the remains of Robyn Gillett… ‘He won’t serve any time,’ [his lawyer] said, ’so long as he serves probation…’ His co-defendant, Chaunee Marie Helm, 30, of Hesperia, pleaded no contest and is to receive a one-year county jail sentence, less time served… During a preliminary hearing in May, sheriff’s deputies testified that they had audio and video tapes of Cooper and Helm confessing. As graphic pictures of the damage done to the child’s body were shown in court, Helm wiped her eyes and looked down, with her hand covering her face. Helm returned to the refrigerated section of the morgue three times, according to a videotape. At one point, a detective testified that Helm said, ‘Hurry up. Let’s go home and have sex. Because governments rarely have laws that explicitly forbid necrophilia, this case inspired California lawmakers to draft legislation prohibiting post-mortem sexual assault. However, the defendants obviously couldn’t be charged under a law that did not exist at the time of their actions, so they were charged with the lesser crime “abuse of corpse” — a legalism that can include but does not necessarily equate to sexual abuse.
Because “abuse of corpse” does not entail much of a penalty, the defendants have been let off with an astonishingly mild sentence — in fact, it’s especially astonishing since the “victim,” if you can call a cadaver a victim, was only four years old. This amounts to saying that, in states where there are no laws against necrophilia, you can get in more trouble for abusing a live child than a dead one. In principle that is probably just, since a live child suffers worse from the abuse than a dead one. But it also raises the possibility that pedophiles can satisfy themselves simply by using necrophilia as camouflage. You can more or less get away with child abuse so long as the child is dead.

i hate to say it like this but if the sick child rapists can keep their filthy hands off the living children in this world, then they can have any dead, decomposing body they want, in my opinion.
