Infidel Barbie

“Barbie has been declared a menace to Saudi society. ‘Let us beware of her dangers and be careful,’ Saudi Arabia’s government-sanctioned Islamic cops declared… ‘Barbie dolls, with their revealing clothes and shameful postures and accessories… are a symbol of decadence to the perverted West,’ the cops said. Sheik Abdulla al-Merdas, a preacher in Riyadh, said Barbie’s clothes and bangles may prompt the country’s women and girls to ‘refuse to wear the clothes we are used to.’ Saudi women must cover themselves from head to toe with a black cloak in public.” — New York Daily News (US)

It’s hard to defend America against the charge that we’re decadent and perverted. PervScan is American, and maybe you are too — and here we are, sharing this moment of perversion together. America is the land of the free and the home of the depraved, a great pervocracy, and if you had to choose a symbol of it, certainly Bill Clinton’s semen stain on Monica Lewinsky’s dress would be better than Barbie.

After all, what’s so perverted about Barbie? It’s not like she even has genitalia. Or maybe that’s precisely what makes her perverted. If she has no vagina, she can’t reproduce, and therefore all that wild sex she has with Ken must be for the sake not of children but of — gasp! — pleasure. Ken must spew on her boobs, since that’s about the only sexually appealing part of Barbie’s anatomy.

Just what is it, you wonder, that would make Barbie palatable to the Saudis? Flatten her chest? Give her a uterus? Cover her from head to toe in a veil? Should Mattel make a Burka Barbie? Should they make Barbie Bomb Belts for the country that, let’s not forget, provided fifteen of the 9/11 hijackers? You can imagine what Ed Anger must be saying: if the Saudis think Barbie is so perverted, let’s fill a few cases of Burka Barbies with plastic explosive and ship them over to the royal family. When they complain about their kids getting blown up, we can remind them that it’s not flesh but the destruction of it that is true depravity.

Being american you has their style to think about democracy and so on, first, usa isn’t the land of freedom, you can’t claim that, it’s ridiculous, if you just say something bush don’t like, then you are with the terrorist, you are with usa or with the terrorists? damn it, i prefer no one.
There are some countries that don’t fear terrorism, why? think about that.
At last, barbie should not be the ideal of woman for any girl, she has anorexy.

ps: I like your site, just didn’t agreed with this post in special.

Calling America the “land of the free and the home of the depraved” was a pun on our national anthem. Apologies to any foreign visitors who didn’t catch the pun.

Meantime, in spite of whatever the perception from abroad is, it would be hard to say that it’s either “for or against” here in America. President Bush speaks that way, but that doesn’t mean that every last American feels that way. Most people are able to take more complicated attitudes toward terrorism — its causes, dilemmas, and lamentable effects.

As every woman that ever owned a Barbie knows, Barbie liked GI Joe (with Kung Fu Grip). Ken was her brother…no, not that kind of brother.

You’re right. One should never underestimate the appeal of a man in uniform.
