Photographic Flasher
“The Columbus area’s ‘naked photographer‘ has reportedly struck again… The man ambushes women while wearing nothing but a baseball cap and a smile and snaps photographs of their shocked expressions. He has been at large for more than a year. The latest attack took place in northwest Columbus, authorities said. The man hid behind a bank of mailboxes as his latest victim got her mail. The naked photographer has struck as many as 37 times now.” — NewsNet5.com (US)
Here in New York there is an artist who’s been going around for the last decade making “art” — you have to put it in quote marks — in which the gimmick is to photograph a bunch of naked people lying around in some public place such as Times Square. It’s the silliest thing, and yet the artist takes himself very seriously, “reinventing the tradition of the nude” and that sort of thing. Phooey.
Now contrast that to the Photographic Flasher. Probably he is just some exhibitionistic pervert who prolongs his flashing pleasure by taking his pictures home and masturbating to the look of surprise on his victims’ faces. But imagine how great those pictures must really be. Charles Darwin and others following in his footsteps have tried to create photographic records of facial expressions, but has anyone ever truly captured shock before? Presumably shock is the emotion that dominates the faces, though perhaps they are also sometimes tinged with fear or even hilarity. After the initial surprise, you can well imagine some of the victims just laughing the whole thing off, making fun of the guy’s anatomy or whatnot. (Interestingly, a poll accompanying the news article asks “Is the Naked Photographer dangerous?” So far, 64% of respondents say that he is not — so maybe they ought to make the next poll, “Is the Naked Photographer humorous?”)
You could look at this two ways. He is joker and its a big laugh to him or he is practising sexually deviant behaviour which turns him on, which will lead to more extreme behaviour.
Shouldnt be easy to trace him unless he develops his own photos?
