Hooker Welfare

“A disabled Dutch man who is allowed to claim a monthly sex allowance can’t find a willing prostitute. He should be reimbursed by his council for any money he spends on sex workers. But he says he can’t find a prostitute who will give him a receipt. The man said the prostitutes are worried about declaring taxable income to the government according to De Telegraaf news paper.” — Ananova (UK)

For someone who lives in America, where lawmakers are still wrestling with the validity of using marijuana for medicinal purposes, it is hard not to marvel at the liberal attitude of Holland. Not only can you buy pot there — whether for medicinal or other usage — you can buy sex too. In fact, not only is prostitution legal in Holland, but this disabled man — arguing that prostitution gives him such “peace and rest” that he can cut back on his medicine — has won a landmark court ruling declaring that he can be reimbursed for his visits to prostitutes! If there were ever a ruling like that in America, men would rush to give themselves disabilities of one kind or another. “Sign me up for Hooker Welfare, pronto!”

That being said, it’s hard to believe the guy can’t find a single prostitute willing to write him a receipt. The article never specifies what his disability is, and you almost wonder if it is something so off-putting that the local ladies use the receipt as an excuse not to have to consort with his distasteful dysfunction. Or perhaps, as is the case with most checks cut by the government, they just don’t pay enough to make it worth the ladies’ while. “Why stand still for his slobbering disability when a girl can make twice that on the free market?” Perhaps the government is really fearful of setting a precedent, and so they deliberately short-change the man in order to discourage a rush of applications for Hooker Welfare.
