Hermaphrodite Shrimps
“Scientists have discovered thousands of gender-bending shrimps in the Firth of Forth, sparking fears of a serious pollution problem… About one in five of the shrimps examined at the two heavily polluted sites have been found to have both male and female sex organs.” — Edinburgh News (Scotland)
Although this may be alarming news for environmentalists, perhaps there is a silver lining. Perhaps it is good news for those poor souls who feel as though they are trapped in a body of the wrong gender. After all, a sex change operation is extremely expensive. There was even a story in Long Island last year about a pre-op robbing banks in an effort to pay for his/her hormone treatments.
Pollution could offer a cheaper alternative to surgery and hormone therapy. Those seeking to become a different gender could move to environmental disaster areas — they could lie on beach chairs beneath the hole in the ozone layer, they could suck up emissions from steel mills and power plants, they could swim in oil slicks and bathe in chemical waste. Their bodies would sprout interesting new genitalia, and perhaps they’d actually help clean up the environment too.
This is just funny! LOL.
